I think they wanted someone who could help Flacco develop more. The first thing Harbaugh did though was retain Ryan as their DC, that does not happen a whole lot.

I am new to these boards, but Ryan would make the best sense possible for this team. He comes from a 3-4 team, and has had been able to get experience working with Lewis and Reed. He could hopefully bring this tenacity to the Jets.

Interesting thanks for answering. So it seems the "unique" part is the fact that he has had the same guys calling the shots for a good amount of the time.... Ahhh continuity something the JETS brass cant wrap their heads around...

that would be weird since they didn't draft flacco until late april.

It seemed pretty obvious the Ravens were going to go QB in the 1st round last year. They didn't really have any major potential in that area, or good veteran leadership. So maybe not particularly Flacco, but a young QB needed to be developed in the organization's and fan base's eyes.

if you say so.. it seems awfully unusual to not hire someone, because you are planning to draft a QB, and hire someone else because you are going to draft a QB..

Look no further than Rex Ryan. A man with a proven record that has confidence! He gets my vote.

Oh oh....Ryan is sounding way too much like his father if he really said all of that. And while his father was the best defensive coordinator to ever roam the earth, he was one of the worst head coaches as well.

Also, some of the brightest minds in football are terrible HCs. Mike Martz, Norv Turner immediately come to mind but there are many.

Believe it or not when I rave about Pete Carrol as our DC, it was things like this that made me say wow.

He was the 1st I'd ever seen do stuff like this (that I've seen).

This was when I 1st started recording games and looking at different approaches.
His approach was outside the Box and I loved that about him.

Agreed. Hiring Rex Ryan would be a complete departure from how the J E T S have hired in the past. We never hire the best guys available at the time. Always the darkhorse for the Jets.

We just have to give them 'some time to learn how to be successful in the NFL'. :(

I'm a little worried the Jets weren't mentioned in the article, are we even contenders?
I hope so, i agree with some other posts that we need a 3-4 guy unless we want to dismantle the team again. I would rather have a defensive minded coach for sure. Defense wins championships, Schottenheimer's don't.

"Cheap" is the operative word...desperate really doesn't play into it.

If we hired him, he should immediately turn around and steal his brother away from Oakland. Since he can't do both jobs at once.

Rex Ryan has now become my favorite candidate.

Then Jim Schwartz, Mike Nolan, Brian Billick, and Spags.

This will change in minutes. Schwartz and Spags will probably fall cause I'm leaning towards experienced or likely to bring in good coordinators.
