If Billick really holds the CA high school record for INTs then I want him.

According to the wikipedia Billick played both ways in HS and still holds the CA HS record for INTs. If thats really true I want him. I'm sick of nerds running this team. I'm sick of Div 3 guys like Mangini. Lets get a guy who understand the game because he played the game, and at a high level. The mighty wikipedia says Billick started at the AFA as a LB and then transfered to BYU and became a TE. Was drafted into the NFL, cut before the season started. He played QB and CB in HS, per wiki. This sounds like a ballsy background. Maybe this is the effing guy.

Wouldn't say no to him, anyone know when he is interviewing?

I agree, and made this point when I criticized Mangini before last season. And several former Jets players made the same point during half-time interviews when the team celebrated the anniversary of the 1969 Super Bowl team...

Every NFL team needs an NFL coach to lead them. Do you think the Jets' players enjoyed it when Mangini, an NFL rookie coach, put them through the tortures of Hell in his first preseason, when this fat butterball had never really played the game? Please, all of you, raise your hands.

I agree with what your saying, but I think the are so many other issues besides credibility. I think there are real issues of understanding the game which former players are better at then the nerds. I put Bellicheck in the same category as Magic Johnson, after Magic did all the point guards become 6'8''(measured 6'6'' at olympics)? No, Magic was a one time thing. And BB, a div 3 guy being a great NFL coach is a one time thing too.

Guy has played and coached both offense and defense, won a SB, turned around a team with a losing record and succeeded in college and the pros in a variety of positions. He has a sense of humor and isn't a coward. This is the coach I've been waiting for, except for Cowher, Shanny, and some other guys. Other then them, Billick is the guy.

Dood! I agree with everything you are saying! So let's not "gild the lily,"as the say in literature...

I would just add that, unlike MLB and the NBA, it's always good for an NFL coach to have some actual playing experience in their resume.

I think Billick would bring alot of intangibles

I heard a story that during the 2006 SB year he would fine any player for uttering the word "playoffs" or "Super Bowl". I think he did fine one player whom I cannot remember. For a NYJ team that I thought read their own press clippings- this sounds interesting. He rejuvenated Cunningham into a TD machine and likes the deep threat. He had a good run coordinating with Gannon. He understands that Defense wins championships- yet was instrumental in coordinating the second highest scoring offensive scheme next to the '07 Patriots. This guy has a good resume.

He has good experience at working with veteran QBs- Cunningham, Dilfer and McNair. I know the Boller (2003-2005) experiment failed- but that was more on Boller's extracurricular activities (IMO), etc. With Ozzie Newsome they cut the ties and successfully went with McNair in 2006. I am not implying that Favre comes back- he is so far over the hill that the town in the valley has voted him village-idiot. BUT if he did... BB has the demonstrated balls to bench BF- something BF hasn't had since Holmgren.

Billick likes the big back- with lots of carries, TJ may not fit this bill exactly- but would compliment well such as in his Chicago Bears stint, and would not wear down. This may be where the draft goes if he is HC, or (and I know this guy is a p**ck with ears) but look at a L Johnson (on a short leash and rejuvenated with a sense of purpose) entering free agency. (I know, Johnson could flame out in the city that never sleeps like Buress. But atleast Buress got the ring prior to becoming combustible.) Washington could be used in certain packages and special teams, like D Meggett.

Note how I feel about the running game. I do not believe that the WRS are the field stretching kind and you gotta get the pass protection and QB NOW! to implement that kind of scheme. The Jets already have the run blocking prowess in place- this is where 09 concentration should be- agree?

ive watched a few specials and films on him and I think the guy is underrated. im not saying hes glorious but hes a solid no bullshit guy who people take seriously. even with funny beer commercials.

and that goes to the point you brought up abotu him playing at a high level. you always respect someone whose done what your doing rather than some outside commentation. no matter what your profession is.

one thing I noticed though he seemed to give ALOT of credit to Ozzie Newsome as a scout/gm as far as giving him the team and players necessarry to win.

im curious as to how that interview would go, id say set it up if i owned the team but what do i know. i also wouldnt be out of country while im trying to obtain a new HC for my football team either. also his experience is a plus, i think plucking position coaches and budding coord. is a fading fashion in the league or should be.

maybe one day ill be as smart as woody. lol

that is your basis for hiring a head coach?

i am actually surprised that anyone on here is saying that they want him. he was not a good head coach, he was supposed to be an offensive guru but yet never had even a decent offensive team in balt. the guy couldnt tell a qb from a hole in the ground.

lets remember matt millen was a pretty good football player, much better than billick but i wouldnt trust him to hold his own jock strap.

I'm not against Billick but I'm hoping we're not using his high school playing days as a barometer for how good a head coach he'd be here.

I'm sick of coaches who never played. Even the good ones like Bellicheck, I'm sick of them too. And I'm sick of GMs who didn't play. And it kills me that our QB coach, Brian Daboll, played safety at a div 3 school. How the hell is he supposed to develop our QBs? I want guys who have been there, like Singletary and Cowher. Even little Jim Zorn played football. I want the Jets to be entertaining and the coaches who played the game entertain me more and I think except for freaks like Bellicheck they win more.
