Now this is not a Bash Favre thread but I just want to shed some light on a moment in the season... For all of you who may have forgetten I thought favre did so so for the season nothing to write home about.. But the most mind boggling thing in the beginning of the season that had me scratching my head was when they made favre Captain of the team and he didnt earn a single thing... To me there were plenty more players deserving of the title.. yes your QB leads the team but Captain was a reach and should be reserved for players with numerous years on the team and stats to back it not a reputation.. Way to Go FO....
QBs are often named as a captain of the team, and this was a great way for a sure-fire HOFer to be welcomed to the Jets. Stop blaming everything on Brett Favre. There's more than enough blame to go around!
yeah good point....its never a good thing when guys get stuff given to them just because of their name.... it probably didnt get things started off on the right foot to some "deserving" capt's already established in the locker room....
I have to admit I was wrong about Favre. At the time of the trade, I was as happy as anybody about the move. Maybe all Chad really needed was "to get healthy." The thing is, with our perennial Offensive Line protection issues, Chad would not have made it through a full season as a Jet. He would have torn his rotator cuff for the 3rd time, or something worse. But now we are screwed, without a QB, and I find myself strangely feeling a kind of regret that Mangini was thrown under the bus.
Thanks for pointing this out. Isn't it funny that the players voted him captain then turned around and criticized him for getting special treatment? I am realizing more and more just how immature and idiotic some of these players are.
Same group of genius sports fans that ran Penny out of town wants to run BF out of town. I personally don't believe any of you have improved as QB evaluators over the last 12 months. Jet fans were wrong about Penny, and now your wrong again about BF. Its a joke, this franchise is cursed.
the franchise isnt cursed Its the front office making stupid decision... year after year we axed coaches we axed players we axed whoever we deemed not qualified but in the end who has the final say on who stays and goes??? the FO and my opinion is some of them need to go because the franchise will me making the same stupid decision year in and year out for who knows how long.. Didnt we get a taste of that when Cowher wanted to bring in his personal staff and the Jets FO rejected it so thats why he didnt come here?? Use your brains People... Lets get a Scout team that will go to the end of the earth to find talent even if its in the middle of america in some school you never heard of talent is talent..
Oh yeah i forgot to mention it cant get any worse for us if we did get a new FO we have been 1-15 and we have been 11-5 and anywhere in between...
The players voted on Captains, the Coaches can manipulate it but I doubt they did that. The players chose him, they were still in awe of him at the time as he had only been there a few weeks.
About the title in this thread, I dont think Brett deserved the honor of captain just yet. With that being said and something I read above about Mangini being thrown under the bus got me thinking. Why was Woody in such a rush to can Mangini. Was he the scape goat or was there alot more then we know. Anyway I think we should have held Mangii one more year and tryed the QB's we have and if any of the QB's didnt work then we trade, beg, borrow or steal to get one. Now fire Mangini and get ONE OF THE 4 BEST COACHES COMING OUT NEXT year to coach the team and pick their own QB if ours dont work out. Worst case senerio we hire someone for one year, Then next year we shop from the grocery list of coaches and hope we get the best one. ANY THOUGHTS.
I think they still respect and look up to him just because of who he is and what he's done in his career. Even though he had a crappy ending to the year, if he came back he'd still be respected because he's still Brett Favre. It seems to me not training all off-season caught up to him as the year went on, if he's coming back he needs to be getting ready like everyone else.
something that I found strange was when Mangini gave his son the middle name Brett- and made the comment he gives middle names to his children based on people in football who had the most influence on him. I have always written and felt Mangini lacked the pulse of the team this year. I really feel that using the name Laverneous, Kerry, Sean or one of the longer tenured Jets woudl have provided more impact, instead of again coming across as handing favre the key to the kingdom
Bingo. The players voted for Favre and Faneca to be the offensive team captains. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...bretts_the_one_jets_vote_new_quarterback.html but piling on such a (not) fun to do, so let the others carry on the bash fest. Later...
