Ok, people on here are saying that moving back to a 4-3 would be easy and they use the logic, well these were all 4-3 players originally, they could go back 1. THEY SUCKED AT IT, thats why they ended up in the 3-4 ok here would be our 4-3 lineup Ellis de Jenkins DT ????Mosely 3T ?????Gholston de(not, he couldnt rush as a 3-4 OLB wont be able to rush as a 4-3 end) OLB???Harris not proven fluid enough in coverage MLB??? no idea here Vilma lol OLB???no idea Pace definitely wont fit nor B Thomas So conclusion, we would have holes at a minimum of 3 or 4 positions with a max of about 5 Do your really want to go through another rebuild, this is why Spags would not be the guy for the job.
Who said anything about switching back to a 4-3? No way we will, we just spent 3 years getting the personnel for the 3-4.
Hence why I hope Spags goes to Denver and we get Rex Ryan. The defense doesn't need to be changed, it just needs to be coached better.
this post is completely nonsensical, for reasons such as but not limited to those below: 1) Kris Jenkins had his best seasons as a 4-3 DT 2) Gholston played as a 4-3 DE in college 3) It's immaterial that "we sucked at it." That was a completely different team 4) Even if we don't switch, we still have just as many holes. Kenyon Coleman/CJ Mosley isn't cutting it for that other starting DE spot, we need to replace Barton, we need more depth at DT anyway (Jenkins was asked to do way too much considering his past health issues), and we still need to address all our secondary problems. 5) It's not written in english.
While I agree completely I think Harris could play the MLB in the 4-3 as well. We have no OLBs at all for the 4-3. BTW Pace sucked at DE in Arizona and was considered a complete bust till they moved to a 3-4.
1. that was Jenkins 60 lbs ago when he could move 2. Gholston has shown nothing AT ALL yet so to say he would start at DE is a reach 3. Agreed 4. We need more help in the secondary but the main thing is a DC who will attack.
ok, the question marks showed where the positions in question were, anyway, 1. yeah i know that, Jenkins will definitely have 1 dt spot locked down. 2. So, he couldnt beat a block period, what makes you think switching schemes will change that? 3. Thomas, Pace, Hell even Coleman sucked in the 4-3, this is why they would suck if we switched back 4.Not true, our dline is pretty solid, we have a hole at ilb, olb cuz Gholston isnt cutting it, but you still have to give him one more year i guess 5. There you go
If we switched back to the 4-3 this is what I would think would happen: 1. Jenkins would perform a little better since he wont have to work as hard as a 4-3 NT. 2. Coleman and Pace wouldn't fare well, I would even think Coleman would be cut before the season started. 3. Gholston might be a beast as a 4-3 DE because this is what hes used to. 4. Barton would probably be released 5. Harris would probably not be as good of MLB in the new 4-3 system because hes not a sideline to sideline guy. 6. The Jets would not know who their other OLB is (maybe Bryan Thomas? Ugh). I don't know, I feel like a mix bag of results comes out of this. Overall I don't think its worth it.
Coleman was never here when we had a 4-3 defense. And hopefully Bryuan Thomas will be a cap casualty. Vernon Gholston cost too much and has too much talent to just cut bait on. It's imperative that the new coaching staff figure out how to use him properly. That's the mark of a good coaching staff - being able to work with the talent you have. It's why Mangini was such a disaster, he wasted years and talent (think Vilma, Robertson) to change the defensive scheme just to fit some ideal he had in his head.
well, this all depends on how things play out in the off season, we could sign julius peppers and this conversation wouldnt be necessary
coleman played for dallas when they ran the 4-3 i think but either way Pace played for arizona in the 4-3 and sucked at it and so did B Thomas Did you see Gholston, he looked like His muscles were so big he couldnt even move out there, did you see Jay Cutler outrin him, JAY CUTLER. Idk about you but if you cant even catch a qb in the open field when they run a bootleg, i dont see them having a place in the Nfl haha dont get me started about DROB, first of all he wasnt manginis pick and second of all, he sucked in the 4-3 with denver this year too. Coaches run the scheme they are the most comfortable with and what they feel is the best. IF they bring in spags i would not want him to run a 3-4 he isnt comfortable with, id rather him run the 4-3 where he has been knowkn to have sucsess with, which is why im saying we dont get him at all
no, Gholston has not done anything in the PROS, ANYTHING even if you pencil gholston in at de, whos our 3T dt?? Who is our MLB, even if harris works, which i doubt, we have 0 OLB's theres alot of ifs, and even if all the ifs work out, we still have a pretty terrible defense
I've done this somewhere before but here we go again: DL - Jenkins was a Pro Bowler in the 4.3. Ellis is anything but a standout 3-4 DE and I don't even know who the hell plays the other spot. LB - Harris will do fine in a 4-3. Barton and Thomas, if they're still here, can be equally worthless in a 4-3. Pace seems to play better in the 3-4. DB - Revis and Rhodes can play either and the rest of the secondary sucks, so who cares.
Why the hate on Barton? He's a great pass rusher and a solid LB as long as he isn't playing exclusively in coverage.
Who's to say Spagnoulo as our HC couldn't work with a D-coordinator who prefers the 3-4? I mean coordinators are coordinators, shouldn't they have at least a fundamental knowledge and understanding of the different base defensive schemes?
He was a solid player at his best, but he had a tendency toward boneheaded plays and is getting up in years. It's time for a change.
