Seriously, if the Jets have decided to stay with Tannenbaum as GM why not offer the head coaching job to Mike Westhoff? He's the only coach on the Jets who has consistently managed to get high quality work out of his unit through thick and thin. He's taken new people every year and integrated them into a very successful scheme and he's motivated players to play at the top of their game. The downside would be that he doesn't work out and both he and Tannenbaum go out the door in two years. On the upside the Jets might have a very good head coach for the first time since Parcells left town. Being a head coach is basically equal parts of technical proficiency in getting each of the units on a team operating at high efficiency through good management practices and then motivating players to put out their best efforts regardless of the circumstances in play. If you can do these two things you're very likely to be successful, if you falter at one or the other you won't be. Herm had the motivation thing down but he faltered on the getting the team ready to play at a high level. Mangini really wasn't particularly good at either. Westhoff clearly has the mind to create technical proficiency in his own unit. The question would be whether he can get coaches working under him to do the same in their units. The motivation thing would obviously not be an issue with him. I'm not saying he's a great choice to be the next head coach but he might well have the highest potential of the remaining choices.
Here's an idea I had - got blasted for it, but I like it. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=40922
Westhoff would be a great pick, but he probably wouldn't want all the extra work and stress considering his health
