I was writing a reply to a younger Jets fan who was crying about this percieved "Mess"...
Figured it was better to spread some optimism from an older perspective...

A long time fan here that says.... Wahhhhhh... STOP CRYING!!!!

THIS my friend is nothing.... IMO, this is an opportunity.

I don't see a divided clubhouse - I see a clubhouse united and just wanting a QB that's a part of the team...I think the FO has money on the table so can't cut ties with Favre right away so they just say what they need to and let all the chicken little intepret as they may.....

You'll see as you get older that 90% of this stuff is just New York Media garbage..

    REALITY IS:

This team has decent talent - Maybe the best talent a lot of us have ever seen on the Jets - They have a defense that can use a part or two and some FIRE!!!!!!!!
IMO, this defense can be a top unit in the NFL....

The Offense - continue building the OL - Use Leon more - and Get a WR....

All you kids can get wrapped up in this media fest all you want...

But, I'm telling you today - In the end this team is going to have a coach that has a lot more fire than Mangini and will get more out of this TALENT.

And Remember this... There's a real upside about the Hiring process of a Head Coach.

You get to interview EVERYONE - You get opinions about your team - I heard a Media-Idiot this morning crying about Shcott Jr and Callahan being interviewed..."what a disaster"

They don't realize - It's an OPPORTUNITY - These coaches get their opinions On the line - Tell us Brian What would You do differently???? What changes do we need???? Favre??? Tell us Callahan - What's your Opinion??? Tell us BILL COWHER??? Tell Us Shannahan?????

It would be nice to get the greatest minds opinions Every year but, you can't - so you do it now - You interview young guys to hear some fresh stuff you interview Old guys EVERYONE!!!!!

Damn, people spin this stuff into a frenzy.....

And don't get me wrong - I've been a Jets fan for 35 years and at times I've carried the torch for the Darksiders - I've been a Darksider more often than not - I'ev SEEN THE DARKSIDE, and this isn't it.

Today.. I'm OPTIMISTIC... I really like the talent and I think and hope they'll hire the right HC that will shake this thing up and have a top defense and a good running game next year with Clemens / Rhatliff ballting and maybe another QB...

    BRING IT ON!!!!!

Don't cry new Jets fans - believe me THIS IS NOTHING COMPARE TO WHAT WE HAVE SEEN...

    STOP CRYING!!!!! PLEASE!!!!

Don't let this media spin get you down - When next season starts, jets fans will have a lot to be optimistic about. We'll have a QB that has been a part of the team and I guarantee you we'll have an agressive defense...

I just don't see this doom and gloom people are calling for....

These kids have sen nothing yet... How about have NO talent and NO HC...

    This, my friends is GOOD!!!!

No one's crying about what happened last season, we're just worried that nothing will be done to fix the problems, but hoping that the right guy will come along.

It's one of those manic depressive-type situations.

Actually, you should START crying and forget the idea that things will fix themselves. They never have in Jet history and won't now either.

    I've been though it.

If you think THIS compares to the worst times of Jets history then CRY Away...

I don't... As a former Darksider, I'll be optimisitc about this whole process and see a lot of good.

What do we need to fix? we have a great bunch of guys, huge potential, and a few pieces away from completing the jigsaw. Thanks JB, it's about time we had some positivity and optimism for the future, these are not dark times, these are optimisitc times, get a couple of people in and the sky's the limit, and unlike many on here it would seem, I'm confident that we will do just that.

I have followed the Jets for awhile but really became a faithful follower in the early 80's. Thats when I met this guy who has followed the Jets (Mets too) since they were the Titans. We have become great friends since then. When all this garbage is piling up....he can give reference points to where it was a lot worse and you just hope they can change it up for the better. Though I must admit when we turn back the page, they really have not handled most of these changes in a good way. I am frustrated but hopeful.

As my name indicates, I am a Jet fan since the days of Todd and the Mud Bowl. This season and the Brett Favre debacle is going to lead to a few lean years that are Kotite-like. Optimism? They are going into next year with either a 40 year old has been or unproven rookies at QB. Oh yeah, no coach either. Who in their right mind would coach a jackass like Favre when it is obvious that his upside is currently nil and not worth all the baggage his "bigger than the team" ego brings. I think with a mediocre QB this year, not even a great one, the Jets are a 12-4 or 11-5 team. Favre singlehandedly cost them a number of games with his play. Turnovers are team wide momentum killers, and Favre has the patent on that these days(has for years).

No lie : I tore up the copy of the Daily News when i saw the backpage 8/6/08 that the Jets got Favre. For the first time in my life I did not care about the Jets, and wished them failure for how they treated a guy with the level of class Pennington has. I wished Chad success wherever he landed this year. And thankfully this has happened and there are football gods. The Jets deserve what they are getting right now. I hope Favre was worth the years he is going to set them back and never have any success for it.

This is worse but it can be fixed with a good coach and a good QB. Neither of which we have at the moment. Without both we will be average for years to come. In other words the same as it has been for 40 years. It's time to start crying.

Well, that clears up a lot. Thank you for clarifying that you are actually not a Jets fan any more, and were cheering for them to lose throughout the season.

I'm hopeful , but worried. The Jets kept a tight lid on all internal issues that obviously were present , but weren't allowed to come to light. Now the Top cop so to speak (Mangini) is gone and all the little wrinkles are coming out into the open. We will be hard pressed to attract a seasoned coach to put his legacy on the line for this bus wreck that is the 2008 New York Jets. I too have lived through really bad years as a fan and have also watched the Jets resurrected from the trash can, so anything can happen. (To quote Felix Unger-"I fear Much trouble in the fuselage Fredrick"!

What they are doing now is worse. First they say they want Favre bck (good or bad it is what it is). Then they leak to the media that the new coach can do whatever they want with him (only because Cowher did what he did). Now they leak that they really hope he doesn't come back at all.

If people can't see what a debacle this is and how inept and pathetic this front office is then you must be blind. As every day goes by the situation gets worse.

    puddnhead,
I will start to care again when and if Favre leaves. He is a cancer. I do not root for cancers. Especially when they dump a guy who i rooted for with my heart and soul. I am also a New York Ranger fan, and would not root for them or watch them when they had Eric Lindros, who I cannot stand.

For now, watching Brett favre has given me so much entertainment. He is funny to watch now. Some of those throws a pop warner player wouldn't make.

This is one of the few times I agree with you. We need to stop the bleeding , like right now. I really think we will be settling on Callahan because we aren't exactly knocking down the familiar view everyone has about the Jets.

I've divested from the emotional rollercoaster that is the New York Jets Football organization. If they sign a established guy? great. if they sign yet another rookie? great. It's beyond my control and as such, I won't waste another second worrying about it. Whatever Woody does with his team is his business.

What I won't do is waste any more money on the Sunday Ticket. If I want to catch a Jet game, I'll go to a Damon's or Hooters or something. No merchandise for me either. I'm done with that nonsense too. PSL's? Not in my pricerange and honestly, I don't think its worth the 25G's to sit in a giant timeshare and watch this team play for whatever ungodly amount of money they're charging these days.

40years of this shit has driven me to this point. Root for the Jets? Absolutely. Be annoyed but not angry when they stink up the joint? Perhaps for a hour or so but not much longer than that. There's enough going on in life to occupy myself with than a franchise that can't get out of its own way.

No more koolaid for me boyz. I'm done with that childish shit. Perhaps one day when this franchise finally gets its act together, I might reconsider the ST. Until then, I'll just watch the reruns on NFLHD or catch an occasional national broadcast.

Jet Blue, well said. I understand Cman50's point though. I felt like I was revisiting the Richie Kotite/Joe Walton/Pete Carroll years after the Seahawk/Dolphin games.

LOL.. Now fans are sure we're settling for Callahan...

Why do people make shit up?

How do you possibly know what doors they are knocking on...

You interview EVERYONE, to get more opinions on your team - This is an OPPORTUNITY to learn and get a lot of different points of view - You have to interview Callahan - he's been a coach, he's been here - you hear what he says.

But, I guarantee you this team is NOT hiring Callahan.

Make shit up? or do you mean have an opinion?

It is a fact that the front office has publicly made two contradicting statements concerning Farve. It is a fact that everyone with a beef in regards to Farve is now chirping like a canary. It is a fact That we have been publicly rebuffed by the best coach available. It is my opinion that no one will want to touch us with a ten foot pole. Or am I just making shit up?
