How can you hate Brett Favre? He's not the reason we missed the playoffs. In fact he's the only reason we looked like we might make the playoffs at one point. For all his faults he probably won a couple of games this season that none of the other Jets options at QB would have. The Jets are 8-8 or 7-9 this year with Chad at QB, maybe worse. They're no better than that with Clemens or Ratliff either and both of them would have been huge question marks going into the season. Favre got hurt about 10 games in and he and the Jets sat on the injury even though it was hurting the Jets chances. That's on Mangini, not Favre. The head coach decides if his QB is too hurt to be effective and moves on to his next best option. As we saw last year Mangini really is not good at QB decisions and so he kept startng an injured Favre who was reaching the point of total ineffectiveness. If Herm had started Chad all the way through 2004 the same situation would probably have developed. Instead he took him off the line for three games when it became clear that the arm needed some downtime after the tear and the Jets managed to recover somewhat. Blame Mangini, not Favre.
Reported, shmeported, they have film for that. We, the fans, knew Brett was having trouble making the throws in the latter part of the season. Go look at the threads about a possible Favre arm injury scattered throughout the forum. If Mangini was doing his job right he confronts Favre about the arm and then he sends him for an MRI IN SEASON when it matters. Seriously, the more I look at Mangini's actions over the last two years the more I doubt that he even understood what an NFL head coaches job really was.
the last 5 games of the season. Some of the worst QBing ive ever seen from a Jets QB and that includes the likes of Mirer, Nagle and the rest
Mangini said time and again that he deferred all medical decisions to the team doctors. If he was told by them that Favre was good to go he took it at face value. It's a good way to dodge the blame for post-concussion matters, etc. IMO it was incumbent on him to make further enquiries and get to the root of it.
I can say I don't hate him as well,I will also say that his last 5 games were not good, at all. Made me mad. Maybe his ego kept him playing and maybe Mangini was pushing for him too. Would a back up have helped, possibly but not guaranteed. There seems to be a whole team meltdown. Defense not stopping any one, receivers not getting open and bad throws. I noticed today on ESPN news that players are now blaming Favre. I think it is a bunch of it's "him" not me. Yes I do believe Favre didn't do to good at all this year. When they were 8-3 everything was good but unfortunetly it all fell apart. Now everybody wants to blame someone. Favre or Mangini you pick but I think it is everybody's fault on the team including Favre and Mangini and probably the two in the office as well, but let's pick up and move forward.
Where's the "I didn't" option? Also, not all of your options are founded on fact....where did anyone report he is the reason Cowher won't come? Where did Woody Johnson say Favre is the reason Mangini got fired? The options are made up.
When i realized that he wasn't struggling because of being unfamiliar with our offense, and found out that that he just has nothing left.
Steve Young and Brett Favre were my 2 favorite non Jets of all time. Favre coming here is really ruining it.
I turned on Favre during the second NE game. The frusterations of the Oakland and KC game started it. But during the NE game I realized he could not throw a good pass beyond 10 yards. ANd that immediatly put up a red flag that we were headed for a collapse. Even after the Tenn game I came on here and said that Favre was playing to one demensional and that it would haunt us late in the season. Of corse, I spent the next weeks getting flamed to the ground for this opinion.
I supported him all season and blindly said it was Mangini's fault, after reading comments by class acts like Thomas Jones and reading why Cowher wanted nothing to do with the Jets it's pretty clear it wasn't Mangini (at least not totally) I turned on him yesterday, Dec. 31st 2008. The Bill Cowher comments were the last for me, I read the TJ quotes last night before I went to bed and I really got pissed. The of course I wake up this morning and the "anonymous player" comments are plastered all over the Tournament of Roses Parade and I want him gone, away from this team and away from these players.
Never wanted Favre and his me first prima donna act on my team. I wore thin of his act after his first 12 retirement end a rounds.
