Dude, you missed my point--the one I have been making all season. The way things look right now? The Herm Edwards regime might someday look like the Golden Age. At this point I doubt that any good football coach worth his salt will work for Woody. Just look at the guy's record. He treats HCs like crap. If I was Bill Cowher and I had a choice to stay on TV or work for Johnson, I would keep my TV gig. (Unless Woody pays me $8-10 million, of course, which will probaby be the case.) Guys like you are quick to diss Herm, but you never answer my question: Aside from Weeb Ewbank, who was a better coach for the New York Jets than Herm Edwards? Joe Walton? Walt Michaels? Coslet? Mangini? Carroll? Groh? Kotite???? You could make a case for Parcells, but how did he do with the Jets? He built a good team but they only made the playoffs ONCE when he coached them, and he made a number of weird decisions that cost the Jets a shot at the playoffs... Rich Mirer over Ray Lucas? How about that last minute pass in Detroit? And aren't we glad that he didn't bother to sign a backup QB in case Vinny became injured? Whatever else he does in his coaching career, Herm Edwards rebuilt Parcells' team after Al Groh almost destroyed it. Several years after Parcells QUIT ON THE JETS, Edwards stayed with the team and got us into the playoffs three out of his five years. It always amazes me that people belittle this guy.
I'll agree with you on the fact we did better than average with Herm, but that's your reasoning for wanting him back?? That's the kind of thinking that makes us the Jets.
I never said I want him back. What I am saying is that the Jets' record of hiring HCs is so bad that he's the best of a bad lot. Think about it.
I never disagreed with you on that point, I was just stating wanting him back because of that isn't the way to go.
Well, at least Herm's teams played to win. "You play to win the game!" And, oddly, enough, Herm's teams always play like that. Check it out, his KC Chiefs teams play hard for the guy. They always got beat by a few points last season, mostly because the team sucks. On the other hand, Mangini's team, which has all this high-priced talent, a team that hsould be in the SB, has sucked because no one really wants to bust his ass for the guy.
herm was not the worst jet coach, not even close, but the fact he could not do the simplest things like clock management shows that herm could never lead the team to deep in the playoffs. good motivator, but come on didn't he have a special assistant to help him "manage" the clock
For what it's worth, Herm's winning % with the Jets was .488 and Mangini's was .479 You might be onto something!
Herm took over a talented team and drove them straight into the ground. He alone destroyed two franchises now. Go ask KC fans if they would want Hermy around at this point, I wonder what they would tell you? I'm guessing the same rants we all were spewing when he got traded. Hell, the same rants we still spew to this day.
When I saw this I hurled up my yogurt all over my screen. The dumbest thread I have ever seen on this site. Congrats.
