It's actually good timing that the Jets just moved into the NFL's most state of the art headquarters and training facility and will be playing in a brand new Meadowlands next year. Any top coach wanting to come into this situation will be impressed with the potential working conditions and resources available to himself an his staff. If we were still at Hofstra and stuck in old Giants stadium I can guarantee we wouldn't attract any top coaching candidates. Cowher will be impressed and given the right money and control over the football ops, he will have an ideal situation to walk into, with good blend of veteran and young talent.
If we had our own stadium in NY and a new practice facility in NY I can guarantee we'd be more attractive to top coaching candidates.
What's the difference? Jersey is just a stone's throw away from Manhattan anyway. It's the tri-state area and STILL counts as the NYC market.
Google says 42 miles or about 56 minutes. I personally consider working in NYC much different than working in NJ, but yeah, it's all the tri-state area. And I'm not sure how important the culture, restaurants, night life, entertainment, attractions, etc are for a dude like Cowher. Don't head coaches work like 16-20 hours per day, anyway
We're going to have a shared stadium in 2010 anyway, and northeast Jersey is essentially a NYC borough.
Yeah if you're a young celebrity with a boatload of disposable income like many NFL players, you have some better options in NYC than you do in Jersey (I've lived in NJ all of my life and love it here, but alas, I'm not a young celebrity with a boatload of disposable income). Just look at Plaxico aka Harris Smith. He hangs out at all of the cool Applebee's in NYC
It's pretty close actually. Florham Park is near Morristown. I would imagine you'd take 287 to the 206 probably less than an hour drive.
I'm a LI guy, so I was in favor of a new LI training facility, manhattan stadium but that plan was squashed by Woody and now here they are all set in NJ forever it seems. Not gonna keep complaining about it because there's nothing we can do now, but the new HQ does seem awfully sweet and convenient for all. (wish the Jets would think of convenience for the fans now). No matter which HC candidate we entertain, they ought to be very impressed with the state of the Jets as a franchise going into the next 10 years. I hate Woody for leaving us NY'ers out in the cold, but he has spent quite a dime on the team in the past few years.
If you live in Hoboken like Eli Manning does you are like 10 mins from the stadium and 10 mins from midtown Manhattan. Best of both worlds.
Nothing wrong with living in a luxury high rise in Hoboken, overlooking the greatest view in the world...NYC! Come on man, it's a nice place to live for a young guy with cash.
I bet most of these guys are family men and don't ever go in Manhattan. Having a facility in Floram Park and living in Morris county, is a great sell for someone who has a child going to Princeton.
Hey Badger, Neither is Queens, Binghamton or Adirondack, NY. The only thing I know about the Adirondacks is they make damned comfortable outdoor furniture up there.
