He just had on Phil Simms who echoed his words saying that he can not understand how a team could not find the room to bring in one man for Cowher to sign on
I'd be afraid to give the keys to the car with Cowher. Yes he's a great coach... but who knows if he can build a team? I agree with the earlier poster that this could backfire ala Gruden in TB and Holmgren in Seattle.
You can not expect a Person who strives to reach the position he is in now to just give it up for the love of his team. sorry that kind of loyalty or throwing yourself on your sword is reserved for Politicians now. I think it would be a major disservice to fire Tannenbaum for one guy , who isn't guaranteed to produce anything! Id think we would have learned our lesson by now. There is no one person or situation that will favor our beloved Jets. Vince lombardi could come back to life and we would still struggle to attain the highest levels of success. Not being a downer , but everything has to fall together just right for us to have a dynasty. Make an offer that cant be refused and if he does , then he was never really interested in resurrecting a franchise to begin with....The almighty dollar!!!!!
This just in per the wfan.......mike francesa......Bill will sit down with the Jets and he has made no demands......but he will talk to the Jets
I don't agree that we should just give Cowher GM responsibilities. He has had success as a coach, but he has never been a GM in his life. How do we know if he can evaluate personnel? Plus, history has shown that coaches fail when given total control, even great coaches. In fact, eventually, these responsibilities are taken away from these coach/GMs.
I dodn't think he wants to be the GM, he just wants to bring his own guy, at least thats how I understand it.
Can we please stop listening to Joe benigno. Enjoy his rants but don't follow his advice. he's a great guy but when it comes to being a fan he is irrational as they come. Rational decisions need to be made and Benigno feeds the irrational thoughsa of the fanbase and they perceive him as some sort of jet fan God when in reality his ideas are as asinine as they come. He is a what have you done lately for me fan and the minute something goes wrong it's the woe is me mentality. We need to overcome this, don't get too high when we win, don't get too low when we lose. He's the type who wants to retire Favre's #4 at 8-3 and burn him at the stakes when we finish 9-7.
Jim Schwartz, and I'm not even joking. I like the way that dude thinks. Alot. I can see something going on behind the scenes with Cowher. Even a couple weeks ago when the Jets lost to Seattle, he was unusually quiet when everyone was Mangini bashing. He could just be one of the truly respectful people left in sports, but I'll buy some stock in this conspiracy.
I agree. Mangini was 22-26 here in three years with only a one-game appearance in the playoffs. We deserve better, or at least a shot at doing better. Mangini had his chance.
Beningo, biggest baffooooooooon to hit the airways. His rants are classic, because he is so irrational. He has a selective memory.
i am going to only comment towards the OP i didnt really get too deep into most of the other posts. i have to disagree with joe on this one. i really dont want to see the jets sell the farm for one guy who is the all powerful. this puts the franchise in a very tedious situation. first i really dont know what cowher can do as a gm type and one who makes all personnel decisions. second i dont want to give someone too much power, and getting rid of a guy you dont want to because someone says you need to is giving him WAY too much power. cowher isnt the greatest coach in the world. to paraphrase fatcesa earlier today cowher is not a "great" coach he is not an all time great, he is a very very good coach. however he is not bill bellichick or one of the all time greats. to treat him as such or to expect so much from him puts the franchise and cowher in a position to fail. tangini doesnt make personnel decisions anyway, im pretty sure he has admitted that, he works very closely with the scouts and his coach to make those decisions. he really makes his money when it comes to the money and how to handle that portion of it. i am not as big of a fan as most here on the board, i surely wouldnt sell my soul to get cowher. and the best part is that espn is full of shit in what they are reporting. the jets have NOT spoken to cowher, cowher has not asked the jets or told the jets anything. so all this talk of cowher is demanding this or that or the other thing is pure speculation and typical espn bullshit. god i really cant stand espn.
About half an hour ago, Joe Beningo was on another of his tirades You must of meant Joe Bozo the clown on the radio
