My friend said he did the calculations and believes the Jets will have the 19th overall pick in the draft. Is he right? I don't even know what formula you would use.
it will look somthing like this but this is not official but very close if not perfect Pick Team Win Loss Win % Opp % Div Conf 1 DET 0 16 0.000 0.559 0.000 0.000 2 STL 2 14 0.125 0.533 0.000 0.167 3 KC 2 14 0.125 0.537 0.333 0.167 4 SEA 4 12 0.250 0.498 0.500 0.250 5 CLE 4 12 0.250 0.573 0.167 0.250 6 CIN 4 11 0.267 0.553 0.167 0.250 7 OAK 5 11 0.313 0.520 0.333 0.333 8 JAX 5 11 0.313 0.537 0.333 0.250 9 GB 6 10 0.375 0.504 0.667 0.417 10 SF 7 9 0.438 0.447 0.500 0.417 11 BUF 7 9 0.438 0.453 0.000 0.417 12 DEN 8 8 0.500 0.457 0.500 0.417 13 WAS 8 8 0.500 0.478 0.500 0.583 14 NO 8 8 0.500 0.496 0.333 0.417 15 SD 8 8 0.500 0.516 0.833 0.583 16 HOU 8 8 0.500 0.518 0.333 0.417 17 NYJ 9 7 0.563 0.471 0.667 0.583 18 CHI 9 7 0.563 0.475 0.667 0.583 19 TB 9 7 0.563 0.480 0.500 0.667 20 ARI 9 7 0.563 0.486 1.000 0.583 21 DAL 9 7 0.563 0.498 0.500 0.583 22 PHI 9 6 0.600 0.514 0.333 0.583 23 MIN 10 6 0.625 0.504 0.667 0.667 24 ATL 11 5 0.688 0.459 0.500 0.667 25 MIA 11 5 0.688 0.461 0.667 0.667 26 NE 11 5 0.688 0.480 0.667 0.583 27 BAL 11 5 0.688 0.522 0.667 0.667 28 CAR 12 4 0.750 0.488 0.667 0.667 29 IND 12 4 0.750 0.498 0.667 0.833 30 NYG 12 4 0.750 0.502 0.667 0.750 31 PIT 12 4 0.750 0.526 1.000 0.833 32 TEN 13 3 0.813 0.459 0.667 0.750
17 is much better than 19. I feel like most years, its right around the late teens that the last of the real blue-chip talents come off the board. Especially if you're looking for a quarterback, a difference of one or two slots can be a big, big difference.
I know they went 8-8, but making the playoffs should drop them since the playoffs shake up the draft each year.
The last two picks in every round are reserved for the teams that play in the Super Bowl - the winner picks last, and the loser picks second to last. Other than that, NFL Draft rules state that the draft order is determined by the records of the team, regardless of whether they made the playoffs or not. If two teams have the same record and one made the playoffs and the other didn't, the one who didn't picks first. If two teams have the same record and both made the playoffs, the one who gets eliminated earlier picks first. If they both get eliminated at the same point, the strength of schedule tiebreaker applies (weakest combined schedule picks first). If two teams have the same record and neither made the playoffs, the strength of schedule tiebreaker applies. To sum it up, the only way San Diego can pick after all those 9-7 teams which did not make the playoffs is to make it to the Super Bowl. Otherwise, they will be picking before all those teams.
ESPN has the Jets at 17 too. http://myespn.go.com/blogs/nflnation/0-4-620/Lions-to-pick-first--20th-in-first-round.html
Draft picks for all non-playoff teams can be calculated now. It doesn't have to be released. The Jets will pick ahead of any team in the playoffs.
Thats plain and simple dumb. The top 12 seeds belong to the 12 playoff teams. The remaining 20 teams hold the last 20 seeds. SD will have the 21st pick if they lose in the first round. Tenessee can end up with the 25th pick if they lose the first game. First thing that decides the picks are the playoff appearance and how deep that team goes in to the playoffs. Those teams that are knocked out of the playoffs, are then seeded the next 4 seeds from 21st - 24th. Divisional losers are seeded 25th-28th. Chamionship losers are seeded 29th and 30th. Super winners are 32nd, of course. There are 4 9-7 teams that did not make the playoffs. NE will get the 20th pick. Jets will get anywhere from 16th to 19th. We kicked NE out of the playoffs AND we are ahead of them in the draft. Dolphins are behind NE. Buffalo will be ahead of us.
Ur crazy...see above why. They will not pick in the top 20 spots even if they lay an egg in the playoffs...which they will.
