The Pro Bowl will be played one week before the Super Bowl in 2010 and both games will be staged in Dolphin Stadium, a person directly involved in the decision told The Associated Press on Monday. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the NFL has not announced the move. It's not a new notion to have the game moved up to take place between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl. The NFL has discussed it multiple times in recent years, and commissioner Roger Goodell told the AP last month that having the game precede the Super Bowl would avoid a "somewhat anticlimactic" ending to the season. The Pro Bowl has been held in Honolulu since 1980. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081229/ap_on_sp_fo_ne/fbn_pro_bowl_miami_1
The amazing part to me is that they plan to play the Pro Bowl the week BEFORE the Super Bowl. What coach in their right mind would let a player who will be in the Super Bowl play in that game? The game is meaningless as it is. This makes it worse because there will be several big names left out of the game. Making the game even less of an event than it is now.
I'm really disapointed.... the PB sucks but part of what makes it cool is that it's played in Hawaii. I've never gone but I was considering going this year so I guess if I wanna take a Hawaii PB trip I only have 2 years to do it.
Well, ya Super Bowl players won't go but it doesn't always make a difference. Look at last year for example. The Giants sent only 1 player and the Pats Moss and Brady didn't even go. I disagree with it having less meaning tho. More people will watch the game now since it's going to be in that dead week with nothing else on. For the players obviously it's not as big of an award, but the NFL is a business first and foremost and if they believe they get more viewers doing this then that's what they're going to do
So what do they do for the years where there's only one week between the Conference Championships and the Super Bowl?
In a world where All-Star games are pointless, the Pro Bowl stands alone as the most pointless. Moving the game this way will do nothing to change that.
