And when we were in the 4-3, a lot of people were complaining that Barton was too slow. If he and Harris are our two linebackers, the third better be a nimble mofo.
If - and this is a big IF - Gholston can turn into a monster DE, the foundation for the DL is there. Teaming up a good DT next to Jenkins (remember he and Rucker?), with Gholston, Ellis, and another DE (maybe Pace?) could make a formidable line. The LB's will be slow no matter what scheme we're in. I've been saying this for half a season now. We need speed. So that's something that'll have to suffer for a year, but maybe we sign a guy like Dansby, or draft a stud at LB. Then the 4-3 doesn't seem like a major setback.
FYI: Ellis played DT for us when we were 4-3, Thomas played DE. Jenkins played 4-3 in Carolina and Pace played 4-3 in Arizona. The odd man out would be Coleman who is a decent run stuffer, but never makes any plays, Not a big loss in my opinion. What scheme did Harris play at Michigan? I thought it was 4-3 also. DE: Pace DT: Jenkins DT: Ellis DE: Thomas/Gholston OLB: Barton MLB: Harris OLB: FA or draft It could work
umm do you remember thomas b4 2006 when we were in the 4-3...and the same for pass...they were bust's until they converted to linebacker...and we would need 2 linebackers if we switch..right now i think we have all the peices (with hope of gholston) and replace barton
No way should the Jets switch, we finally have the right personnel for a 3-4. Every single player in our starting front 7, plus Gholston I don't think we should give up on so quickly, is a better fit for a 3-4, except maybe Barton.
This thread makes absolutely no sense... If we hired a coach that uses the 3-4 why would he choose a coordinator who runs a 4-3
The whole point of this thread is to discuss what the Jets would look like in a 4-3. If you don't get that, I don't know how else to explain it to you.
I am pretty sure my memory is good on this: Ellis at DT was a terrible failure of an experiment. Herm tried to play him at DT for a season and it didn't work out at all. I would pretty much just eliminate the thought of him moving to DT.
Yea great move, lets rebuild the defense after years of making it into a 3-4. Tanny is not stupid, no way we ditch the 3-4. NO WAY.
Like they would? Come on, this was a thread made by a fan who is clearly lacking knowlegde of our team. It wont happen, period. Stupid thread.
No way.. Have of the guys named on this thread could not play in the 4-3. Hence why they were in a 3-4. Coleman was supposed to be the Proto Type 3-4 end. now you making him a DT?? Guys get a clue.. We spent three years getting guys in to fit the 3-4 mold.. We NO have to 4-3 OLB's.. We only have one DT Jenkins... So the others listed are role players nothing else.. Not full timers... Do you guy's really know about the guys who play who, just read their stat lines?
Thank you. There is finally some sanity in this thread. I swear, less than a week ago I tore apart another one of these idiotic "switch to the 4-3" threads. THE ONLY CURRENT JETS PLAYER PLAYER THAT COULD EVER PLAY 4-3 LINEBACKER IS HARRIS AT STRONG SIDE OLB, AND HE WOULD BE VERY SLOW AT THAT. THE JETS HAVE NO TRUE SPEED RUSHER FOR RDE. THE ONLY REAL REDUCED TACKLE ON THE TEAM IS C.J. MOSLEY. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL SCHEMES, DO NOT POST ABOUT FOOTBALL SCHEMES. AHAHAHAHA CAPSLOCK.
