If we switch back to 4-3 I will hate Mangini much more.

Is that really such a bad thing? It's not like the 3-4 shit was working all that well anyway. When Jenkins started wearing out by the end of the year, it was apparent he's the only thing holding the run defense together.

Plus it's not like we're short on DE's. Thomas, Pace, even Gholston could possibly play DE in the 4-3.

We are alot closer to being able to play the 4-3 then we were the 3-4 when Mangini got here. I wouldn't make that the deal breaker, I'd like to see Spags as the next HC.

Who is the Gholston person you speak of? Did we pick him up off of someone's practice squad? ;)

I would really like to know who had the say on drafting Gholston... Tanny or Mangini...

I am just saying it will CONFIRM my thought that Mangini made a mistake switching to 3-4.

I think it is very difficult to acquire the necessary talent to play a strict 3-4.
That said, guys like Bryan Thomas and Pace have struggled in a straight 4-3. I'd hate to see a complete reversal in philosophy at this point.

This is why i am very intersted in where Rex Ryan may be at. He has a proven track record in being inventive with defensive fronts based on personal he has.
Very tough for offenses to game plan around a defense that even finds even it's NT back in coverage on certain plays.

Anyone know contract terms with Ryan in Balt?

Bill Cowher told the Browns he "can't see himself coaching in 2009."

If he's being honest, that means we shouldn't expect him to be receptive to any offer we throw at him.

I like Ryan for a number of reasons. Growing up with his father he certainly learned how to discipline players and keep them in line, but he also is loved and respected by his players (as shown by their support for him to get the HC job in Baltimore last year.) He coaches a 3-4 that would fit our personnel very well (look at what he's done with Ngata and imagine Kris Jenkins in that role) and, perhaps most importantly, he coaches aggressively. I can't sit by another season never seeing a single blitz.

There are a lot of good candidates right now but Ryan is my favorite, and that includes Cowher.

    I prefer him to Cowher...
I'm fairly certain Suggs, Scott, and Lewis are all 3 FA's....I can see only 2 of them being kept...with Scott as the odd man out

Screw Rex Ryan – people have been stroking him off on this board for ever. Last thing we need to do is replace they coordinator who coordinated the 28th worst defense with the tool who coordinated the 30th.

Edit: I was thinking about Rob - nevermind
