From all accounts, he seems pretty content on taking a year off.

Everyones missing the big picture here. Brett hands Holmgren his win in Seattle. Holmgren retires. Brett tanks. Mangini gets fired. Brett has surgery, hems and haws on returning. Holmgren hired. Brett comes back for a 8-8 year. Yippee!

I Dont think Cowher would mind coaching this team with Favre at QB. Maybe groom his future QB behind Favre for a year or so. Guess that means they would have no need for Clemens. Maybe kicker or punter.

My point was that the "Favre Factor" was his effect on the organization, which was mostly a negative, kinda like an old Terrell Owens who couldn't catch anymore.

I was a huge Favre fan for years and I have argued in the past that he was the greatest "non-system" QB ever to play. In his heyday he could take a crappy team to the playoffs on his shoulders. His heyday is long gone.

But the fact is...this was the worst performance over 5 games I have ever witnessed by a Jets QB in 30 years as a fan...and thats alot of bad QBs and bad performances. Yes, the rest of the team and coaching was subpar as well, but just looking at Favre he was HORRID. He actually made some plays that I had to question if was trying to throw the game.

IMO...if they bring him back they are crazy. If they let the issue linger they are fools. If your gonna start over, then start over without a 39 year old head case of a QB.

I think it all starts with the team doctor.

We need to move on with Clemens or Ratliff. The Favre move was a good one it didnt work out because of our offensive schemes sucked. WTF happened to Keller. Maybe it was me but Stuckey caught almost every ball thrown to him. LC looks cooked. Let him go to Miami and play with Chad. Love Chad and glad for him once we were out of it but did you see that TD pass to Fasano or the Flea Flicker to Ginn. Cmon those passes were jokes. What about the past to Barton. We would not be in any better position with Chad. Every personel guy warned us about Gholston but we took him anyway. Can anyone say Mayo. I'd love Cowher but I'm sure he will get stupid real fast as soon as he puts on the Green and White.

I completely disagree with your assessment. In answer to your question: It is irrelevant about Favre; why? He is not bound by any future deal (contract). Meaning there are no cap considerations at all. Favre comes back because the new head coach wants him to, not because Favre feels like it. Favre will not hold this team at bay at all; not even close. Personally, I fully expect the new HC to not renew a contract for Favre. He came in for a year and that is how he goes out; one and done.

I think the big reason is Mangini should have started kicking Favre's ass up and down the field after the SF loss. I think Favre should have been benched for a game. But, the stigma and records of Favre outweighed the potential control a younger inexperienced coach had on the team. It would not at all surprise me if Favre had a "No Benching Clause" written into his contract to protect his consecutive start record.

Apparently you didnt listen to Woody at the Press Conference. He's excited about the idea with Favre going through a full training camp next year should he choose to return. As woody says he will be more familiar with the current system.

Earth to Woody: You just fired the current system. that is why you are at the podium. Jackass.

So if Favre decides hes bored and wants to be in the paper every week he'll come back with or without the new coaches consent. And the new coach will have to stroke his HOF ass every week.

Now really think about this before jumping down my throat, the Jets should hire Mike Martz as OC. Martz is an offensive genius. His last couple of seasons have sucked because he had garbage playing at QB, if Favre returns, Martz is a SERIOUS option.

I really think Woody was dodging a bigger storm than the one already on the table. I would not read into it at all.

Favre will retire. Jets can NOT afford to keep him and stay under the cap limit. They need money to sign draft picks along with FA activity. Dumping Favre will put them $9m under the cap limit, enough to splash it at a big time young FA.

One major reason that the FO wants Favre back. $$$

The day he became a Jet he became the "Face of the Franchise" ... you know like Joe Willie, Keyshawn Johnson and to a lesser extent Chad. The team, which happens to a business run by a soulless greedy dork without any football savy born with a silver spoon in his mouth, did not go through all that crap and spend all that money, redirect all its marketing and fire a coach that "doesnt fit" so they could get one year out of Brett. They are banking on at least 2 years taking them right to the new stadium and lots of fat checks for PSLs.

The firing was needed, but it still wreaks of damage control for what was a real flop of a business plan. Brett will be back, and he'll probably interview the new coaches as well. We are so screwed.

Uhhhh it would still be a full TC, OTAs, minis.....regardless of who and what. The point was he didn't have much time with any team, and it would be a benefit to whoever the QB was/is.

Why wouldn't a big name coach come here with Favre? It gives him a free season, literally. It gives them the option of evaluating the team for an entire year.

I think Mangini should have gotten another year, but I'm not opposed to getting rid of him either, because he had the luxury of 160M at his disposal, and barely got his team over .500

Without Jauron's(sp?) bonehead call the Jets are 8-8. They sured up the majority of the team, and that includes the QB position, because if you blame the CS at all for the collapse, you have to say that Chad wouldn't have been any better.

When you have a D that has been exposed in such a huge way, and a coach that insists on moving the ball through the air, even when you should be running, because your QB is injured or just old, you are going to lose games.

No way do we get the coach of the future, if Favre stays!!!

We will get stuck with a cast off, guys like Cowher will not come here either way.

In order for us to get a new young coach like the Giant's Spaghetti O to groom a new QB and offensive coordinator BRETT FAVRE MUST GO!!!

Exactly that's the whole reason they brought him here in the first place.

It was never about winning or who gave us the best chance, it was all about the Benjamins!!!
