Just watched the SNY replay and Woody said he and his guys are going to look at everything and decide whether or not Mangini will be the coach in 2009.

Doesn't sound like a vote of confidence to me, and if I had to bet I'd say that Mangini will be gone by Friday.

Friday?....I'd say he's done by midweek.....the interview process will have to begin ASAP.

I think they will decide to keep Mangini and hire a new OC and DC.

I want them to just clean out the coaching staff including Mangini.

I'm pretty sure those weren't his words ... I don't recall the the "and decide ..." part.

rumors on pre-game said mangini would survive...they either fire him or give him an extension....you can't let him come back as a lame duck coach because that just kills you for free agency

Sutton has to be a lock to go. Mangini should go with him as well. I'd assume the new HC would want to pick his own OC.

I do like the job Bill Callahan has done with the offensive line though. ..

    Good point.

He better not give mangina an extension. He doesnt deserve it.

Problem with saying sutton has to go is that mangini got more involved in the D as the season went on -- you have to be accountable for that

The Jets are going to have no choice but to either extend Mangini or fire him (assuming they want to find a new coordinator or two). IIRC Mangini has only one year left and if the Jets want to get rid of Schotty / Sutton they will have to give their new coordinator(s) more than a one year deal to come to the Jets. You can't have a coordinator with a deal that extends farther than the head coach's deal.

I think Mangenius will be gone before tomorrow's press conference (set to air at 4:30 PM on SNY)... Woody is too professional to allow this to drag on. Besides, anyone who saw the press conference should see that Mangini knows the end is at hand.

Or they go with the NYG theory and extend a coach everyone hates hoping for a NYG like turnaround next season

As bad as Schottenheimer and Sutton have been, it falls on the head coach. He has been allowing the same poor play week in and week out. You can blow them out as scapegoats but it doesn't resolve the issue with the clown running the show. Handing him an extension just tells me that failure is not only acceptable but rewarded in this organization. That is a hard argument to sell PSLs with.

This is the second best news of the day...First one was of course the Pats missing the playoffs after 96 years...

Fire Mangini, Sutton, Schotty. There is no reason why they should be spared after a debacle late in the season. Callahan, Cowher or Billick. One of these three will be fine by me.

Personally I say Mangini and Schottenheimer need to go. They are terrible decision makers and we had no excuse not making the playoffs with the roster we had this season. I didn't think about it until today, but Bill Cowher would be a great choice if we can get him. He would definitely attract a great QB for 2009 via free agency, draft, or trade and anyone else we need.

It wasn't Favre's decision to punt instead of try a 50 yard field goal and go for it on 4th and 4 at our own 20 against Seattle, which started the fire for Mangini. Did he say anything to Favre other than don't hit on 20?
