Thanks for nothing Fat Boy, don't come crying to us after you get axed, you pissed all over us once and told us it was raining. Dust off your accounting version of your resume Dough boy, I know some good recruiters if you want to send it over, we'll try and get you into one of the Big 8 firms. And no, donuts are on you Michellen Man.
Hmm. Patriots fan in 2007. See handle. Cardinals fan now, maybe? See avatar. Patriots- not in playoffs. Cardinals- in playoffs. Do we have a bandwagon jumper here?
I have to wonder if Mangini will even be able to get another job in the NFL as anything higher than a positional coach? He seems like he might be a good head coach for a team like Temple.
Let's clarify something. To the people who suggest Spagnuolo: Do you realize hiring him would then create a rebuilding process because the Defensive scheme is completely different than Mangini's? The best option is to go with a proven coach, who prefers the 3-4 and knows a DC who will run an aggressive 3-4; this way, we only need to add a few players and upgrade, rather than change the whole system.
Cowher is a much better option IMO. Cowher has much more of a hard nosed attitude and can achieve success on both the O and a D sides of the ball. Billick's teams were always very defensive oriented, and I don't know how well Jets fans will take to that.
We have personnel that can run the 4-3. Perfect fit? Not really, but it can be done. It is much more difficult to put together the right players to run the 3-4 then it is to put together players to run the 4-3.
I'm not crying, I know we're the best team in the league right now aside from the Giants and that no one would want to play us in the playoffs right now. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief when Mangini and that farce of a football team you have rolled over like pigs today. We all called it after they flexed the game to 4:15, I blame the NFL, they should have left both games at 1pm. They lined their pockets at the expense of the Patriots, it's a shame. Us crying? Why ? After we franchise Cassel and parlee him into a #1 in 2009 and #3 in 2010, combined with the #2 we already have from the Chargers giving us (2 -1's and 2-2's in 09) and Brady ready for prime time, why in the world would this great team be crying are you kidding me! You have no future QB right now, Dough boy and Tannie pissed that away with what has to be considered the most desperate and thoughtless move ever made in the NFL. You cut the better and younger QB for a washed up 40 year old has-been and a 3rd round pick too boot. How freakin stupid can you get ?
Exactly my point. Cowher definately fits this description but can you honestly say he will pull a staff together that isn't the steelers already?
1. Jon Gruden (might be shown the door in Tampa) 2. Mike Ditka (might be enticed from his job at ESPN, who knows?) 3. Marvin Lewis (the Bengwads probably don't want him anymore and maybe if he had a front office that didn't hire thugs at every position he could thrive?) 4. Jim Haslett (did a good job with the Saints, might be worth a try) 5. Jim Fassel (he got the Giants to a Super Bowl, did OK under NYC pressure) 6. Charlie Weis (sucks in college, might do better in the pros) 7. Herm Edwards (laugh all you want, but he was a good coach for the Jets) OK, you can tear these choices apart all you want, but I don't think any of these guys are worse than Mangini. Al Groh would be better than Mangini. In fact, with all the free agent talent that Mangini enjoyed this year, even Rich Kotite would have done a better job.
Bring in Spags, bring in the 4-3 and call it a day. I've had it with the Jets 3-4, it just doesn't seem like its going to work- not everybody has the personnel of the Steelers to pull it out so well. The 24 million guaranteed going to the Ghost can then be used effectively because I bet he seems like he's useless in the current scheme. I don't want the Jets making any more moves just to sell PSLs or get another primadonna in here. Get me somebody who's hungry and has some fire. Yeah, I'll deal with some Herm-isms if I get somebody who the players will play hard for.
Mike Tomlin was a Cover-2 guy. He was hired as the Steelers coach after the 2006 season. He did not change the Steelers from their 3-4 base to a 4-3 Cover-2 scheme. He kept the 3-4 in place, so that the defense would not go backward. The Jets can hire a 4-3 head coach and he very well may keep the 3-4 scheme in place. If a change is made, I don't think there would be a massive rebuilding project anyway.
I think any team can utilize both schemes. It's not like 1 roster is strictly filled with 3-4 players. But the players we've acquired over the past 3 years have been geared more towards the 3-4, and they've been learning that scheme. Take a guy like Gholston. He's adjusting, learning how to become a 3-4 OLB, learning the terminology and style all this year, then he'd have to go back to a 4-3 DE and learn all that at the NFL level.
