IMO you are looking into this a little to much. I don't think he gets by 3 but if he does it is a no brainer decision. All the guy does is win football games, his teammates love him and he has all the tools to be a successfull QB in this league. His intelligence has never been questioned, nor should it, whether he like bubble gum or not..
All he does is wins games.....with two 1st round running backs in Bush (will be 1st pick overall) and White, a talented offensive line with 3 of them grading out as first draft day talent (OT Justice Rd 1, G Litui Rd 2, G Matua Rd 3/4), a late 1st/early 2nd round talent at tight end (Byrd)....all Jay Cutler would have done is win games with this "supporting cast"..
Yeah well thats really easy to say without any way of proving it. But explain to me if the only reason Leinart wins is because of his supporting cast, explain to me how he was winning before anyone knew who Bush and the rest were..
Well that gives us something in common. I don't have a sweet tooth but bad teeth nonetheless, and hate dentists. Honestly, that's just info about the guys and I doubt that bad teeth and watch fetishes would pose a negative translation into his game.
I didn't say the only reason he wins games is because of his supporting cast, but it is a HUGE reason why he won games is all. Your post stated that "all he does is wins games". My point is you can't give all that credit to Leinart. As for your (weak) argument of "explain to me how he was winning before anyone knew who Bush and the rest were".....Yes, you're right, he did win the National Championship in 04. He still had Bush who rushed for 908 yards and had more receptions (43) than he did in 05, he still had White who rushed for 1,103 yards and he also had a guy named Mike Williams who went #10 overall in the 2005 draft to Detroit. That in addition to the 3 o-linemen who will be drafted high this year. If you're gonna make an argument for Leinart, don't tell me that it's all about winning and he's a proven winner. The supporting cast has a large role to play in that, I believe...
nobody is giving all the credit to him, just the credit he deserves. Leinart was as big a part of his team winning as those other players. you on the other hand are attempting to discredit his participation in his winning those games, which is dishonest. nearly every great QB who has ever won anything has had great players around him, so by your position every great QB should be discredited if they played with other great players.
if the Jets draft him it will be to QB the team, not to write a best selling novel. I couldnt care less if he writes like a retarted 4-yr old as long as he wins thats fine.
The fact is all he does in win football games. That is a fact. He did have a great supporting cast, most winning QBs do. I'm sick of hearing about his supporting cast as a negative. Why isn't it a negative that Bush ran behind those 3 OL that will be high draft picks or that he had White to share carries with and wear the D down. Maybe Ds couldn't stack the line because they had a Qb that could shred them if they did.. That USC O was stacked from top to bottom and if it is gonna be a negative for Leinart than it has to be a negative for the rest of them. But the fact remains that all Leinart does is win football games and he has all the tools to continue that in the NFL..
Don't get me wrong, he definitely played a part in winning those games. But I keep hearing the following from scouting reports/commentators/posters on TGG.com: Leinart may not have all the measurables, not ideal arm strength, a little less mobile than ideal, etc., etc., but "ALL HE DOES IS WIN GAMES". So therefore, if it becomes the main selling point, you have to bring his uniquely talented supporting staff into the equation. But everyone is missing the point of this post: Leinart is a glitzy QB, who wants people to take notice of the watch he wears at the NFL draft. With everything I've read about Tangini and the evidence we have of the guys they've signed (all lunch box type guys), Leinart doesn't fit the mold. I'll be really surprised if we draft him, even if he is available...
If Matt Leinart is sitting there at number four and we have no intention of drafting the kid, then we'd better damn well be fielding calls to sell the fourth slot. We'd be otherwise pissing-away the value of the four, and woefully mismanaging the draft.
To further support my point, this was from the Serby article in NY Post today: "The draft expert I trust the most, because of his experience as college scouting administrator from 1994-98 for the Rams and Midwest scout from 2001-04 for the Browns, is GMjr.com's Russ Lande. Leinart's Hail Mary task will be to convince Mangini, Tannenbaum and rookie offensive coordinator Brian Schotteheimer that: * He is not a celebrity Hollywood quarterback who lists Paris Hilton as a friend. * It is not a red flag that he last week fired superagent Leigh Steinberg." Totally agree with the first "Paris Hilton" point. That kind of stuff will be a huge red Flag to Tangini. Not all front offices mind you, but certainly ours....
Wait a minute... After reading these posts, now I'm leaning the other way. What's wrong with listing Paris Hilton as a Hollywood friend? Now, if he can then provide proof that he NAILED Paris Hilton, then I say we've got to take him at #4. The kid is worth the pick.
Did you read the one about wether you would want Matt and Regie on the team at the same time or spend the week(or something) with Jessica Simpson?
Dude, is this a joke, or are you really trying to make a case against the guy based on gumballs and watches? Edit: yeah, I guess I should have read into the thread more. Disregard.
I don't care who he hangs out with as long as he wins. The kid is a football player first and foremost and his teammates love him. That to me is more important than what he does away from the field. Did you see the photo of Big Ben partying the week before the SB? I agree with SundayJack though, if Tangini doesn't like him than fine, I'm not gonna pretend to know more than them but someone will and we better get a kings ransom back in return.
