8 years? jesus. So in 2015 Yankee fans will be happy when his bloated contract is comming off the books.
that's funny. Tex is a very good player, but he has never been a game changer. at least ARod, for all his flaws, is one of the most dominant hitters to ever play the game. Tex hasn't ever been mentioned as one of the top 5 players in the game. heck, top 10.
Heh. You're right. It took me 6 years to really come to grips with it, but I don't care about money and the Yankees anymore. I'm one of the last to join the party, but I can't be worried about it anymore. If I was able to survive the last 3 years of Giambi's contract, I can survive anything.
Joe, youre throwing the word choking around too loosely like the Mets themselves haven't seen their fair share. When will you learn that your reputation is a steaming pile of shit that the dog in your avatar left on the front porch of your "mansion?" Go away Mets fan, I can't stand the sound of choking.
Nice sample size. I think only 3 of his 15 at bats in the playoffs last year came with a runner in scoring position (add in a sac fly).
Isn't that why Giambi was brought in after 2001? Same framework, long expensive contract that he couldn't play up to after the 4th or 5th year. I got no problem signing good players, but anything more then 5 years is highway robbery by the player because no way will they be worth anything close to the money at the end of the deal as they were at the beginning. And god help you if they go all Carl Pavano on the team. I'll riot if the Mets get Manny for instance with anything more then a 2 year deal.
Tell us O Wise One how can you sign someone to a 5 yr deal when he is demanding 8 years from everybody?
You don't, you let your competition sag under the burden of his overpriced contract that ties up a roster spot when he's under performing at the end. Then you sign somebody better and younger. Having one guy locked up forever is one thing, especially if they're a once in a lifetime player but the Yankees have what.....5, 6 at various stages of 5+ year contracts? Sure, if you take out the parts where he was a sulking baby not playing hard and complaining how he wanted out of town....which finally got him kicked out of town.
What is Pettitte? Apparently the writers aren't familiar with it either. Oh, you changed that while I was replying. "If there are 14 or fewer Type A or Type B free agents available, no team can sign more than one type A or B player. If there are between 15-38, no team can sign more than two. If there are between 39 and 62, there's a limit of three. However, teams can sign as many Type A or B free agents as they've lost, regardless of the limits above." So, how many did they lose and how many are there this year? That will answer the question.
There are about 59 since Mussina and others retired, and since I don't know the Yankees I don't know whether or not they picked up Marte's option, other than that they lost Abreu and Pettitte as a type A, Ivan Rodriguez is a type B. Edited: because it is both A and B
Abreu and Mussina were both type A so does that mean they can sign 3 plus 2? http://www.sportscity.com/MLB/Type-A-and-Type-B-MLB-Free-Agents/
