While I spend most of my time here lambasting Bob Sutton on the Defense.
The fact of the matter is Favre is playing like an old man and now seems to lack the confidence in himself to dare and make the long throws. Age shows up late in the season and football is a young mans game. While certainly the coaches should be blamed for not properly adjusting, nothing is working right for the Jets right now. Favre was playing well early in the season but the cold and bad weather have hampened him. Remember the playoff game last year when Favre was with GB and they lost to the Giants? He looks now like he did then, tired and old. This is what we get for going after an old man, we took a shot and it didn't work out. At least the Jets sold lots of Jerseys and he made the season interesting until December. December is crunch time and although I had high expectations. It was a fun year while it lasted.

Others not showing up for December ( old or otherwise), while I'm on the subject:

    Jenkins
    Keller
    Coles
    Cotchery
    Sutton
The entire defense that doesn't hit anybody hard and arm tackles and a secondary the worst QB's in the league have tore up. Not sucking it up before half time and getting the job done. I think we have given up points with less than 2 minutes left in every game this season.
Shotty for the perplexing game plan that only works on the first drive of the game.
Mangini for not getting the team fired up.

I'm pleased with Jones, the O line, Hodges, Washington.

Now that's off my chest and I feel better. I'm hoping for some luck and a victory over Miami to get a fresh start for a playoff game. we are no more worse or inconsistent than the Eagles and all the others trying to slip in to the final playoff spots right now. I have never felt worse after a loss.

And Merry Christmas to you all, it's only football and thay are all millionares.

I think the team was completely figured out, and no one looks good because of it.

This is a big part of the problem, but you would think peole who spend all day watching film and practicing with the same group of guys every week could figure something out by now. Hence why Mangini's head is being called for. He will be gone and the Jets will go for Cower because Mangini shows no emotion, we will get a guy showing lots of it. coaching changes always go opposite of the last guy, ie: Herm to Mangini.

I am pleased with the O-Line Run Blocking, but they can't pass block at all. Half of Favre's interceptions, if not most, are due to him throwing it to avoid the sack, or being hit while throwing it. They are amazing at making holes for Jones and Washington, but they need to improve the pass blocking

Agreed the pass protection should be better but we all know one of Favres bad habits is in trying to make plays by throwing up an air ball sometimes. I did that a couple of times in HS and the result would be INT most of the time. Of course, I was never Brett Favre or even a pimple on his ass as fara QB goes, but he should know better by now. The QB's with the great arms and skill can be overconfident that way. Namath used to do the same thing, especially at the end of his career when the Jets sucked and he wanted to win games seemingly by himself. My defense of Namath for it was thats all he could do was throw it at that poit because he had 0 mobility at the end.

One year can't make that much of a difference, especially for a QB. He hasn't played well recently, but he's not too old to still sling it like he did last year and did for certain stretches this year.

My main point befoe I started rambling on was that his age seems to have caught up with him since the weather has been poor. He played a shit game vs Giants in the playoffs last year too.

I don't think of the age more than just he seems to have given up.

Some eye opening comments by Francessa (I know, everyone hates him) is that Brett has not stepped up as the leader. Maybe it is not his way to take the reigns, I don't know, he just seems as lost as the rest of the team.

Warren Moon played well at the tail of his career, as has Jeff Garcia and Kurt Warner.

Elway wrote a good article about getting older, from his own perspective in the Sporting News last issue pg 74

Here is part of it, i think it's true

" as time went on though, I really started to feel it on a wintry day. You just dont move well and you feel the cold in your bones and joints. It's harder to stay loose, it's harder to grip the ball..etc

    " Brett's just not himself"

I think Favre needs a complete offseason w/ us. As much grief as I have given him I think he'll be better(even though he'll be older) next year if he comes back. he owes us for his awful play, he needs to have a full offseason conditioning program and a full offseason in our system.

We don't have a true #1 WR and unless we start playing Keller every play Favre has no one to throw to.

Yes we do, we have 2 starters capablae of being #1s. We have a very good WR corps. That's not an excuse.

Sadly I think there is a lot of truth to this. It appears as if Brett has just hit a brick wall and his play has fallen off significantly. I don't know if he has much left in the tank.

Hopefully he can go out and give one more great performance this Sunday, but I'm not very optimistic about it.

As much as I hate to agree with your statement ... I MUST ... I was ecstatic when we got Brett .... But he has not looked himself the last 5? weeks ... He looks as though he has almost given up ... and lost heart ... I didn't ever think that I would say that about Favre, but I have no other explanation, I think he needs to retire after this year and STAY RETIRED, enjoy his $$$, his family, his dog and be done with football ... He has given everyone plenty of memories and has always been a leader, now is the time for him to ride off into the sunset with but a single regret ( Even he couldn't help our coaching staff make a winner )

I also agree the OL has been quite disappointing in pass protection. Don't forget the penalties, either.

We have lived and died with Favre this year. He's going to get our coaches fired because in the losses he's been horrible. I could tolerate him if he wasn't throwing 2 picks every game. When we got him, we got a qb that either made you great or made you horrible. We've seen both sides of them.

^^^ I was ecstatic as well when we signed him, and at one point during this season it looked like the move was going to work out great. Then it went downhill faster than a fat chick on a snow tube.

edit: I don't think the collapse is all on Favre, but he's certainly been a part of it.

How many deep balls must he come up short on to prove this to you? Obviously he can still throw but his accuracy on deep balls has been horrendous.

NEWS ALERT...FARVE has never been known for his deep ball. What about the zip he had on it to the pass that Coles droped.
