Assuming we take the BPA with the 4th pick, how far can we move up by packaging our second 1st rounder and our 2nd rounder? If we see someone slipping, how far up could that package take us?
According to the Draft Value Chart, we could probably get the #12 or #13 pick. But other teams value picks differently, and I'm not sure if I'd want to give up those two picks.
I don't think it pays to do that. Stock piling picks fills more holes. In a draft this deep with few standouts bodies count. This thought to over 40 players of first rounfdquality. No Elway's , Tomlinson's or Lawrence Taylor's, but a lot of potentional solid players with pro bowl potential.
I am all for staying put and letting the draft come to us. I only raise the question because I think a move like this has better chance of happening than going up from the 4 spot. Things will be shaking out by the 12-15 pick and Tangini will have a good feel for where things are headed by the 29th pick. If they love someone at 12 to 15 who they graded as a top 10 pick, it wouldn't be such a bad idea.
An interesting proposition indeed. With Bunkley recent rise up draft boards, Ngata may be one of the players that drops to that slot. Even Vernon Davis might be available (a little less likely). Who knows what theyre thinking
I'd much rather trade the #4 and see what we can get for it. I'm thinking atleast a #12 and maybe another #20s somewhere. Maybe Denver can give us their #15 and #22.
Hm... I don't think we should do it unless we're going to get Bunkley to solve our 3-4 NT woes or someone like Winston Justice. I would prefer to keep the picks and fill our many needs... but getting Justice or Bunkley would be good.
The problem with trading up is our two biggest needs are OT and OLB. We need a starting OT and a starting OLB in the first 3 picks. Having 3 picks gives us a lot of flexibilty. The other of those three could go for the BPA who would be a luxury like Mario Williams, Mangold, a NT, a CB or even anotehr OLB. Trading down really pigeon holles are pe picks for need rather than BPA. Its a very deep draft fopr the first 50 or so players why give up one of those picks. Its also a very deep draft for OT's and CB's both positions of need. I would much rather see us if we could find a partner and move down from 4 and acquire more picsk in the top 50.
There's no way we should package those two picks together to move up. I can see using a 4th round pick with one of those picks to slide up 6 or 7 spots, but we need to exit the first two rounds with 3 potential day 1 starters/contributers (2 if we take a QB at #4). I can see us doing this if we want to slide up from #29 to grab Watson or Wimbley or to slide up from #35 to ensure getting a RB and an OL at the end of Round 1.
Agreed, that and if we moved up near the top 10 we'd have to spend alot more on the guys. Those 2 later picks will be good players if we pick properly and I am excited to see who they are.
I wouldn't have a problem trading down from #4 for a great package. In fact, I think thats the best case scenario. I'm not in love with any of the top QB's and the top 10 picks get crazy money and can be hard to sign. That said, If say we grab Ferguson, Williams or Cutler at #4 and are able to add Ngata, Justice or Bunkley at the 13-14 slot. Both those picks would be on some draft boards "the best at their position" and both would fill significant needs for the team. We would still have two 3rd rounders and an early 4th rounder to add depth at LB, WR and RB.
