good points. im sure we could find a stat that shows our 2nd and 3rd down production are better on the runs. and i've definitely noticed that most of our big runs have come from cut back runs and not straight up the middle.
I can honestly say that I go into every single game with a "We can win" attitude. I don't watch the games with my arms crossed , thinking lets see what goes wrong now. For Jets fans that watch some games and see other teams game plan and its obvious what they are trying to do to us , but we don't see a safety blitz or a the very least an attempt to get a pass rush going , I feel it is our duty to voice our concerns and share our thoughts. I don't think we are being asked to be completely blind to our deficiencies and short comings but a healthy discussion is necessary. This year the departure if Chad was a difficult proposition for some people , while for others it was welcome. We have a Future hall of famer behind center now and for anyone to think about mediocacracy would be insane , thus leading to mental breakdowns and out right crazy threads and responses. I am New York Jets fan and will always be a Jets fan. My son is a Jets fan and probably ; like pop will be Jets fan always. Lets go jets....Till Death do us part!
I don't get why people complain about our lack of blitzes from the secondary...we've blitzed Revis and Elam more than at any other point in their careers.
Elam's got 2 sacks, 3 FF's, and some TFLs and he's only a decent safety at best right now. Revis had one of the key sacks to our early season in that first Buffallo game. What kind of sack numbers do you want from your secondary?
When you rush 3 you have 8 guys in the secondary. Most teams have 5 guys in the secondary in passing situations. When you don't have any DE or LB in to rush the passer you have to rush the passer from the secondary. It only appears like we blitz a lot from the secondary because unlike other teams, we have almost twice as many people in the secondary as typical NFL teams that also blitz from the secondary.
So, it's a good thing? Bad thing? Or are we finally seeing a medium and you're just saying that it just...is?
I think it's a bad thing that we upgraded our DL and LB and our D hasn't improved over last years d statistically in either letting up yards or points. I think that is directly attributable to a lack of pass rush by taking our best players off the field in key situations and replacing them with below average NFL talent. Even a blind squirel finds a nut once in awhile but the fact is our D hasn't improved and it looks like that's not a talent issue.
This is so. Bottom line is we still lack a "pure" pass rush. Sure, we can get plenty of pressure by sending in the kitchen sink. But do that too often against Cassel (Peyton Manning's probably a better example) and he'll make you pay dearly. Dearly. And when you're doing this against a scrambler and you don't contain him in the pocket, it gets even worse, because he can not only flick it over your head, he can run it out as well, as Cassel showed us. Cassel basically provided the blueprint for other teams to "copycat" in the games subsequent to the Patriots game.
Yes, I have. My observation (the post you are replying to) was as someone new to the Jets fan base this year, commenting on the attitudes expressed on this board this year. So I'm trying to understand what you're trying to say? Being here four months is too LONG a time to be able to state the impression of a new fan? Or what? ???
Do you think that because we do have some size and talent here, that this can easily be turned around? Or that given a shorter season with higher stakes (the postseason), we couldn't switch to a more aggressive approach?
We do have some talent but maybe the Giants and Colts have a better formula for the current NFL than Parcells and BB who Mangini is copying? It's a passing league now, more domes, more progressive turf that plays well in bad weather, rules that protect the passing game, the QB and WR. Maybe the big 3/4 concept isn't the best route in todays NFL? Maybe we should put more capital in speed off the edge than size? Is sure worked for the Colts and Giants the last two years.
No, but perhaps too soon to be complaining about the characteristics of a long-suffering fanbase and of the board members who have been demonstrating them here for years. In other words, pipe down new guy, I'll be negative if I want to. If it bothers you so much you can always head on back to the Packers board, which I'm sure you'll do once Favre's gone anyway.
OK, I get it. "I'm old and I have the right to be cranky about whatever the hell I want, for whatever reason (or lack of reason) I want." Okiedokie. You're kinda confirming my POV though, not convincing me I've misjudged. In the meantime, maybe you can propose that people don't get to post here at all until they've been around for over a season. Since you feel it's valid to crap on the posts of people for no other reason than that.
GreenHornet - Good thread. I like it because your original post made a point and set the stage other good posts in the thread....specifically JTuds and xxedge72x. The key to any good thread is to have a point and back it up. Too often, lazy posters will just throw out some nonsense that ironically gets more play than the good ones. Personally, I tend to post to the darkside, because that is how I am able to cope with this maddening franchise. I don't think I could handle becoming overly optimistic and then being disappointed. The best I can do is hope they win, root hard, and let the chips fall where they may. Then when SOJ stomps on my heart, I come to TGG.com to purge myself. Now for me, I post "in character" for lack of a better term, just because for some reason it helps me get over the game a little easier. Honestly, when we win I can't think of anything to write.....but there is no better muse than a crushing loss. Keep up the positive thinking GH....hopefully I'll have nothing to post on Sunday night. DbJ
Puddnhead - I for one am glad you decided to become a Jet fan. Having watched Favre for so many years - I actually enjoy your in-sight. I also admire the fact that you can change over to anothe NFL team. I like most fans here am cursed and regardless of what this manic/depressive franchise does, I can not help but root for them and truly root for ONLY them. Anyway regardless of what some of the other poster respond to you..... Welcome from one old Jet fan to a new one!
Thanks Jetfanroy. Just so we are ABSOLUTELY clear though, I haven't changed teams, I've only expanded them At one time I was kinda/sorta a Rams fans, I felt I had to be because I was living in St. Louis at the time & going to some games. Fortunately they were their Superbowl years Though I have to be honest, it was hard to stay enthusiastic about them once Dick Vermeil retired. Mike Martz and Brenda Warner, between the two of them, started to drive me crazy!
