That D did a lot on the 92 yard drive against the No. 2 D in the league to win the game didn't it. Favre agains three crap teams in a row did squat in a big situation in fact he has disapeared in the big spots since the NE game and NE D has been expossed as second rate this year.
Again, I understand your point, but it becomes problematic when all your stats are average. That suggests that the team is winning as much on other factors, such as the D, as on playmaking by the Qb. The "excuses" you refer to are real factors, I concede. But you could also say, just to take a random example, heh, that Favre had to deal with a new playbook, new teammates, new CS that appears to be using him inappropriately, a mediocre group of wideouts, and still (since we prefer to point to what the team is doing) is Qb for the highest scoring team in the conference and atop the division. In other words, putting aside the agenda driven Chad Fans here, I am an objective Jet fan who is not going to lose sleep that Favre is a Pro Bowler this year.
Actually, Rivers can still lead his team to the division title. They need to win and Denver lose this weekend. That sets up Denver at SD to end the season. How big is that Ed Hochuli screw up right now?
Well he's been snubbed a couple times as well, like in 1994 when Favre threw for 33 TDs and 14 INTs but Moon 18/19 and Aikman 13/12 got in ahead of him. Favre threw 30/17 and 4,000 yards in 2004 and Vick got the nod instead with something like 14/12 and 2,600 yards. Doesn't make sense, but it is what it is.
I really have no problem having Favre get in on name only, it happens every year and it will continue to happen. With that said there really aren't many QBs in the AFC that really deserve to go. I think the best case can be made for Big Ben but he doesn't have the stats the pro bowl QBs usually have.
guys this is how it always works, in the beginning of your career you usually get snubbed out by an older guy with more name recognition but less stats, and then at the end of your career you get in when you dont necessarily deserve it because of your name It all evens out in the end
I don't mind people suggesting Ben for the Pro Bowl because I know how terrible his line play has been all year. The guy gets pounded back there all the time yet he has still been able to make enough plays to win. Rivers should be the guy though. Records don't matter. Look at the opening weekend......Delhomme hits a last second TD pass to beat SD. Then the Hochuli debacle at Denver. Reverse those two plays, SD is 8-6 and nobody can really argue against Rivers because the only argument they have is that SD is 6-8. They can still win that division though. That's pretty pathetic.
This is weird: On one hand it makes me think the ProBowl is a joke. On the other hand, it really pisses me off that the CS has this team underachieving. I thought Mangini went for "high character guys" and "intellectual players" for the very reason being that the team OVERachieves.
The pro-bowl is a joke for the most part. It's more of a popularity contest than anything else. It's probably a nice acolade for the players themselves, but it gives them a bargaining chip that essentially helps inflate their overall value that the team will have to eventually pay them for.
Yes, you've made it clear in many threads that you don't even think he is a real starting QB. We all get it. We all got it long ago.
Do you ever discuss anything besides Chad and Favre? Obviously Favre only got there on reputation but it's nice to see a Jet go regardless. We have had so many snubs over the years it's nice we have a few extra this year. I might actually pay attention to the game for a minute this year.
I play fantasy football too and have Rivers, I just never start him. He's way too inconsistent. I also have Warner in that league, I started Warner most of the time, although last week Rivers would have been better, just not much better. I'd rather use Cassel, but I can't drop Rivers, probably should have just dropped someone else and picked up Cassel a month or so ago (he's obviously gone now). That inconsistency is probably why he isn't in the Pro Bowl.
