This kid played one preseason game and got me excited that we would finally have a deep threat.

Them the Jets luck hit home and he was gone for four months.

In his very limited time on the field he showed in one play why I had been so excited in August. This kid has quickness and speed. Plus his hands looked great too.

Now to the point of the post.

The two biggest needs we have in next years draft are at WR and DB. Yet all five of the best WR in the draft will be gone in the 1st round along with the two best safeties and four top CBs.

So even if we have a 1st round pick come the draft we can only fill one hole. That is where Clowney comes in. Cotchery and Coles are solid WRs but lack the burst and deep threat. They are both under contract so a true no1 WR is not quite needed at this time, nor could the team afford one.

Clowney gives us just enough at WR so we don't have to draft one and can just focus on the defense and our horrible pass coverage. And I hop after a full season next year to develope he will transform into at least a true #2 WR.

i am a Senior at Virginia Tech so i've watched Clowney play for 2 seasons here. He played along side of Eddie Royal (Rookie WR for Denver, scored a TD against the Jets) and Josh Morgan (Rookie WR who is injured but played great in the games he played). Virginia Tech is a defensive based team with a very conservative offense. Royal, Morgan, and Clowney all underachieved at VT because they were rarely used and never thrown too. With that being said, Clowney made some excellent 1 handed catches and plenty of clutch receptions at VT. He has fantastic hands and great speed. And whenever he has been on the field for the Jets, he has preformed. i don't care if it was preseason or whatever, but he always makes the best of any opportunity. He said something like "i have to prove to the team that i can play every week, and do whatever i can" before the Bills game. Clowney got one ball thrown to him, and it was a bad pass. He had one opportunity against a 1st string defense, and he made a fantastic one-handed grab.

hopefully we can get our pass coverage up to par with revis, rhodes (who in my opinion is not playing the way he was 1-2 years ago) and lowrey( i think this kid has potential, but with 2 kids playing cb they just pick us apart at times.) I think our biggest needs are wr and ilb/olb. we need a lb who can cover a te and stop the outside run/screen pass. they kill us with that little 1 step drop throw to the outside wideout, with a inside wr blocking. we need more speed in on the outside and more grit in the middle. that and our dc needs to GO!

We will not be getting a new OLB for a very long time. We have so much money tied up with Bryan Thomas, Calvin Pace, and now Vernon Ghloston that i can't see us spending more cap room on an OLB

very true then go inside. besides our olb havent been playing that well or have lost a step. then play gholston. why are we one of the few teams in the leauge that doesnt start or at least play our #1 pick, but our 2 and 3 start? i dont get it, but i think he needs to play the 1st and 3rd quarters for pace and see what hes made of. hes explosive and has great speed on the outside. why not throw him a blitz or two? maybe he'll get a sack against seattle. he should play fairly well considering their running game... and passing game for that matter.

If we don't go with a Safety or CB I want Terrence Cody (DT, 6-5, 355 Alabama)

This kid could play becide Jenkins and be his successor.

i don't agree with playing Gholston over Calvin Pace. if Gholston has shown any sort of promise this season, then i would agree that he should play, but i would want him to play over Bryan Thomas. Both Thomas and Pace played excellent in the beginning of the season, but they both haven't been preforming as well lately. Pace did have a good game against Buffalo and got 2 sacks, but Bryan Thomas has been pretty invisible for the ladder part of our season.

    I disagree.

    1. BT's contract isn't huge.

    2. The cap is dying.

    3. The 3-4 relies on the front 7, and I expect we keep investing in it until they get what they want. Just the importance of the LBer position in this D makes me think/hope that they'll invest more, especially if Thomas/Gholston don't step their games up.

Maybe CB Victor "Macho" Harris out of VT is someone we should be looking at. He is projected as late first day pick.

Yeah, but i really don't see the Jets drafting/signing another OLB when we just spent the 6th overall pick on Gholston and gave Calvin Pace so much money. We need to give Gholston at least another year before we completely give up on him. And also, we have bigger needs right now. Barton is getting up there in age and our secondary needs help.

yea and what game has gholston actually played in? i dunno i think he needs a good shot this week and if he playes well next week too. pace needs a reality check and he needs to sit a quarter or a half. and if you wanna talk about cb's then they should have signed assante samuels before the season started. not scramble for an ex pat to help them

Yeah i do think it would be nice to see Gholston get significant playing time to see if he can get into a rhythm and get something going. Maybe once he gets some confidence from a few tackles or a sack he will start playing better. However, he was inactive last week, and i believe the coaching staff will continue to have him inactive for the rest of the season. i think the whole offseason and a full training camp may help him out a lot. i would love to see him get a sack or something so he can finish the season with some confidence, but i don't think he'll get the opportunity

the pace stuff is cuz he and BT have been playing terrible. i know samuels is an ex pat but he is a young-er ex pat. just sayin... lol i do think that he would have been a good fit and he may have been able to help us win the first pats game..... and then we wouldnt be in this mess now would we. yea probably.

    Revis,Lowery,Elam,Rhodes.

We arent drafting any secondary help up High.

ILB, DT,DE,WR,OL...Is where you should be looking in the draft.

I haven't payed a hell of a lot of attention to the college ranks, but I'd like to see us go ILB and DT in the first and second round, a large DT that could spell Jenkins and also play next to him when we line four DLs with their hands on the ground... as we do every game, contrary to popular opinion. Another ILB is a no-brainer, a guy that can actually cover the middle of the field to save his life. Lateral speed is a must.

I think if we can field a strong front 7 and get a DC that can use them effectively, those guys should be fine in the defensive backfield.
