Well said I totally agree, I did it last year and when Nugent was called I almost cried, well we got Miller anyway and thinks will work out for the best, hopefully
that's what I am thinking right now. I am not a Jets scout, nor am I a Jets coach. So, this means that I ultimately, have no input on who they pick. Unless they somehow pick a guy who was not listed anywhere on anyones top 5 board, because they saw something special that no one else saw.. I am prepared to like the pick..
I'll agree that all the players listed could wind up being studs or duds. Nobody knows for sure, not even the scouts, coaches, gms, or owners know how any of these players will turn out. I'll be happy with whoever we draft and will stick behind our new FO. I've got my favorite (Cutler) but he's not really worth the 4th pick but I'd be happy if we drafted him.
By definition, fans htink with their hearts. Asking fans to use their intellect is asking a lot.... but Kurt is right.
Personally, I'd be happy with Williams, D'brick or Hawk. We don't need a QB and there is no way Bush will fall to us at #4.
Great post Tony. While I certainly have my favorites, I can see a clear argument for any of the top 10 guys at 4.
good post while i can live with pretty much anyone in the group.. i still must admit the pick of D brick would bother me a little tough.
I agree with some guys here, and myself would feel a little bothered by drafting D'Brick, I know that our biggest need is O-linemen but I really don't like rookies in those positions, I prefer to see well experienced players and if we really want a good O-line we should invest money in it and sign some high profile linemen, if there is no chance we could draft one or two later in the draft, teams like Tampa have needs in O-linemen too and they are going to address them with their late first round pick or later not a top first rounder, well they don't have a top first rounder but if they can get a good player in the late first round we also can. I know, maybe the guy is worth the pick but for some fans it is a little bit sad to see our team pick an O-lineman with an early pick, maybe is just that. I don't know any of you but I do believe that we are going to draft a QB with that pick, I know some of you guys will not like that and even myself will feel like it will be a mistake but I remember when we drafted Penny we had Vinny and Vinny was set to start at QB that year and the following year too, so I wouldn't be surprised if we draft a QB and sit him until we know for sure what Ramsey is going to give us, if Ramsey doesn't work here I can see him just like Fiedler one year and out (if we didn't renegotiate a contract with him).
NO Hawk because he's not going to play out side in the 3-4. NO Young, he's too much of an project. And i think we all got burnt watching the Jets draft and we shouldn't fall in love with players. Like how can could we be butting 2 startering DB's in the expansion draft and not take Ed Reed???? Or if we have two first round picks, why not take William Joseph and Willis McGahee???? I hope those days are over. When in doubt, Stick with an Cane!!!!!!!
id be mad with fergusen at #4 or if they trade to much for leinert.I want Vince Young but its clear we are not going to get him.
I have no problem with most of those names, I have said and will continue to say that drafting d'brick while filling a need would be a mistake at @4 because of the value of the pick, we can get a defensive impact player 1st and still get a heck of a lineman later. If we're thinking big picture here, then i ask who would you rather have in 5 years? a lineman who has the potential to be a probowl lineman or a end who teams have to plan their whole defensive strategy against on top of being a potential probowler himself and who would have a bigger impact in a crucial playoff (or sb) game? just my 2 cents.
You are undervaluing the impact a franchise LT could have on a game. If Brick keeps develping as he is now, Brick will be elite in 3 if not 5 years. Ask a QB if they would want that kind of security blanket. A great LT protects our franchise QB, whoever that might be. It opens up the passing game which in turn helps the running game. And is not a sure thing that Williams will develop into that player.
I would really be upset if we went for Ferguson. We need someone to excite the fans and to make plays. You don't draft an OL in the top five. They never touch the ball, put points on the board, and rarely if ever make the highlight clips. If we are serios about drafting an OT in the 1st round then use the 29th pick. You can never justify giving a rookie OL $18-20 million signing bonus and that is what the #4 pick taken will want. I want a QB, RB, or even DE, but never an OT.
