This is one of the things I love about this organization. They draft the guys who come to play football first and foremost. They don't draft the guys with the gaudy measurables and questionable football skills. Honestly, Gholston is the first "project" pick this regime has taken. I don't think they will be taking another one anytime soon.... regardless, epect him to be deactivated for the remainder of the season.
You know, if a play defines a man's potential that was the play--I couldn't believe he didn't move any faster toward Cutler!
with all the great playing rookies why do we get the one that is going to stink for his first year or so?
Gholston will NOT be a bust forever. Once he gets to play his real position of 4-3 DE he will be a solid starter at the minimum. He just isn't mobile enough for LB and he doesn't make good decisions because he has no instinctive understanding of the game. Put him at DE and let him use his muscle, its what he's good for.
ummm....they told him to rush the passer more than enough times. He always gets man handled on the LOS. He sucks ass. He looks like he plays high. Murrell looked great when I saw him in the game late, when they were only rushing 3 guys. Murrell looked full of energy and very athletic. Fuck Gholston.
What can he do to get back on the field? I can't see him being activated again unless an injury happens. God forbid.
I just figured it out. Mangini and co. should put Gholston through the same tests the saw him do at the combine. That's why they drafted the guy anyway; he's a better athlete in shorts than in pads. That will get him back on the field.
VG Inactive Yesterday Vernon Gholston, take a seat. The Jets' top draft pick, the sixth overall choice, was declared inactive for today's game against the Bills - a mildly surprising development. Gholston has been a major disappointment, and this confirms how far he has dropped in the eyes of the organization. Some have felt that he should've been inactive weeks ago, that the club kept him active because it didn't want to admit the obvious. Gholston was not listed on the injury report, so this appears to be a coaching decision. In essence, Gholston was replaced on the 45-man roster by TE Bubba Franks, who had been inactive in the previous seven games. As expected, WR David Clowney is active, replacing injured WR Brad Smith (concussion).
^^^VG definitely starting to go into the high bust potential circle; if not, already there. He can knit a good scarf, though; also seen picking flowers. We gotta get this guy a Jobu or something. We have to get the ball to Clowney more; the guy wants to play.
*sigh* Gholston was drafted to be a pass rusher. Mangini has asked him to be a complete linebacker in his rookie season. That isn't his skillset and he isn't there yet. Give the guy a chance. As long as he isn't needed to start, he has time.
But he can't even pass rush. I look for him in games, and whenever he's been in, all I've seen is: No strength, no speed, no moves. Sorry, hate to say it, and would love to be proven wrong, but BUST.
