On 60 Minutes tonight Pete Carroll said, "Getting fired from the Jets was the best thing that ever happened to me."

Did you know he's #4 on my list of names I don't ever want to hear again?

I didn't watch this on 60 Minutes, but it seems to me that losing the pats job would have had a bigger effect on his life, as it was only after then that he took over at USC.

I saw that. That says a lot about this franchise. That's why I keep thinking that it's a pipe dream thinking that we could lure a coach like Cowher to come here. The Jets are just not viewed as a prestigious coaching job.

Pete's right though. He was just not a fit here. Although he shouldn't have been canned after one year, it was kind of a foregone conclusion that he was not cut out to deal with the negativity of the NY fans and media.

This is a Jets message board and it's interesting to hear that a former head coach of the team felt that getting fired by the team was good for his career. If anybody wants to discuss Carroll in any way they can do so here. If not, this thread will soon get buried and will be forgotten by the middle of the week.

Is that why Bill parcells took the job a few years later?? (following an imfamously pathetic 1-15 season, no less?) Did you spend any time THINKING about your post?

    He wasn't a NFL coach.

His personality is a natural fit in the college game.

Sorry, my post was stupid. Of course it's relevant to the Jets. I guess I just got the impression and/or assumed that it was another "woe is me" post about the Jets. I'm just so sick of that shit on this board.

That's the way I took it too. He feels he's a better fit at the college level. I don't think he was dissing the Jets at all. But that's JMHO. :)

Bill Parcells is famous for being extraordinary at rebuilding teams from the ground up, not only in talent but in culture. He rebuilds them well, he rebuilds them fast, and all he asks is to buy the groceries he has to cook with. Not a bad gig for the team that hires him if you ask me.

It wasn't meant to be a "woe is me" thread. I detest those types of comments.

what??? LOL. I don't get your post. I'm talking about 1997, when Bill parcells became the Head coach of the NEW YORK JETS. (This was following an infamously pathetic 1-15 season by the NY Jets, lead by none other than Rich K)

    Get it? LOL

Right. If it was any other team he'd say the same thing. The thought is "getting out of the NFL was the best thing that happened to me"

We just happpened to be the last team he coached at this level.
