This loss was the first loss in a long time that truly stunned me. After we beat Tennessee, I wanted to believe that we would win out but I knew in my gut that we would probably have another letdown somewhere along the way, and frankly, I was ok with that. After the Denver loss, I still had a very positive outlook on things because I felt "relieved" to get that letdown out of the way (again, I just knew there had to be one) and I thought it was a great opportunity for the team to refocus and re-energize itself for a big push in the last quarter of the season (I thought, a push culminating in a division title, and considering the Steelers' schedule, quite possibly, a first round bye). I felt there was NO FUCKING WAY the Jets were going to come out flat against the 49ers. Not after the sloppy Denver loss. I thought they would come out energized and really do everything in their power to rid themselves of the awful taste left in their mouths from the putrid performance against Denver. I was repeatedly writing on this board about how confident I was that the Jets would rebound against a bad team after an embarrassing performance and a week of bad press. This loss went against everything I thought I knew about this Jets' team. I am just shocked. And I'm also a little scared. For the first time this season (yes, the first time. Even earlier in the year following our pathetic loss to the raiders, I just thought we needed some time to come together as a team - especially on offense), I can actually see this team folding and not qualifying for postseason play. And it's terrifying. My gut STILL tells me that we will wake up just when most media pundits and fans think we are done (now) and win our last three games (all very winnable) to clinch the division at 11-5. But then again, my gut also told me we would abuse the 49ers today. Maybe my 'gut' is really my heart. And maybe my heart just can't begin to cope with or EVEN ACCEPT a reality in which the Jets don't make the playoffs in 2008. Not after all of the off-season acquisitions this team made. Not after all of the hype this team got when it acquired the services of a legendary and future HOF quarterback. Not after all of the HOPE this team gave me following it's triumphant victory over an undefeated team. We'll see. I still believe - I think.

Your optimism is nice, but the reality is this isn?t a very good football team and we were lucky to win a few of these 8 wins. I don?t expect many more wins from the remaining schedule. There is no heart on this team and that starts with Mangini. Brett should retire, and we need to draft a pass rusher.

I felt the same way about the SF game. I figured Denver was a minor bump in the road. This loss proves we are middle of the pack and the two "big" wins were just lightning in a bottle.

I can only assume you're implying that because I have had an optimistic outlook on this team, I'm not a hardcore fan and know nothing about what it means to be a Jets' fan. Well sir, I can only assure you of two things:

    1) you're an asshole and should refrain from making baseless, snide comments in the future.

    2) I'm 23 and I've been a die hard Jets fan since I was 9 years old. The first Jet game I ever watched was the Marino-fake spike game in 94 (I've watched or been to every Jet game since - including preseason games since 97) . . . we all remember how the rest of that season turned out.

maybe some of you half hearted fans should hang it up as your tiring and an insult to us fans who really love this team and have a littel part of us die every miserable game like today

He said nothing that would warrant calling him an asshole. Next time you'll be suspended.

We always seem to stink it up when it matters most. I hate losing but I love my Jets very disapointed at this point, although I didn't want to get my hopes too high. Its going to be very interesting to see how this whole thing will unfold especially with Chad merking teams they're not suppose to beat and we aren't dominating anything or anybody when it matters most.

That's your opnion, and I respect it wholeheartedly, but I couldn't disagree with you more. It was a rude comment clearly made with the intent of belittling me as a fan. I did NOTHING to provoke his remark and I admittedly became defensive. I don't see what the big deal is here. I also find it amusing that you are warning me about a suspension over my post (apparently because I used the word "asshole"), when earlier today, another posters' entire post consisted of the pithy remark: "So where are all you green cock suckers now". Not to mention the fact that people on this board routinely take UNPROVOKED shots at each other, using words like "fag", "moron", "bitch", and "idiot". But hey, it's your board. :breakdance:

Pathetic...I went to the game and I can't fucking believe ManGINA had no fuckin' game plan for the 49ers.

He truly sucks as a coach.

    NO GAME PLAN WHATSOEVER!

At the end of the day, the Jets are still in 1st place. We all know the Jets are better than they played the last few weeks. if the other Jets team shows us, we will be fine. Maybe this is exactly what we needed. A reality check late in the season.

That's why all the threads last week pretending the Broncos loss was a good thing was so stupid. It has nothing to do with "learning" from a loss, and everything to do with losing in the first place. Losing the Broncos game did not in any way change the probability of losing another game, or if it did, all it did was lower the chance to win as it killed momentum. It's impossible to get a winning streak going when you lost the last game. Your next win will be your first, not your second in a row. Obvious, but people seem to ignore that.

Are we going to make the playoffs? I dunno, maybe. It's no sure thing. It depends on just how incompetent the CS is. They look pretty worthless to me right now, but maybe they surprise me the next few weeks.

Everyone says that the CS is gameplan specific but I disagree. We seem to have the exact same gameplan every week. On offense, it's a ton of very short plays. On defense it's coverage schemes, with little to no pressure. It just so happened this gameplan happened to work on the Titans. It's not like it was tailored to them. Well, I guess we ran more against the Titans. Usually we just ignore the run after awhile, but make no effort to use play action passes (which we did use against the Titans a few times, and they worked). Haha oh man this CS is atrocious. I seriously can not believe people support these imbeciles.

You must be kidding. Teams that do well as the season ends do not require a wake up call in their 13th game. And if the SF game was a wake up call, what was the Denver game? A pre-wake up call?

Ftr, I don't think the two year comment was deserving of having the poster be called an A hole. He was making a fair point - to be surprised by a game like yesterday is not something any long term Jet fan would be. It's unfortunately a common feature of Jet history, the only difference being in the specific hows, not the whats.

I was shocked as well, but I can't say that I'm surprised to see this franchise let another golden opportunity slip away.

This was my sentiment after the Denver loss.
