That O-line is average at best. As others have said, Teague is not the long term answer and neither is Jones at LT. Personally I think we still need to draft LT, C, and G. LT - Jones LG - Kendall C - Teague, Mangold - Mangold could possibly start here if not at the beginning of the season at some point in the season he should take over. RG - Moore RT - D'Brickashaw (sp?) - Phase him into the NFL at RT as many LT's are, then when we're comfortable with him move him to LT and Jones back to RT. I don't know much about the guards available in the draft, but we could definitely use an upgrade and/or depth there.
D'Brick not a RT D'Brick is not gonna cut it at RT. Read his evaluations, he is not a road-grater type player. I understand your phase him in theory but we could probably get an effective RT in the 3rd or 4th round.
I'm not sure I understand your response. LT and RT are essentially the same position. The difference is that LT is generally the QB's blind side so you want your best pass protector there.
I defer to KurtTheJetsFan on issues involving offensive linemen in the draft and heavy metal, because he spends far more time than I do watching, reading, and writing about both. If I remember correctly, Kurt thinks that this is a deep draft for offensive tackles. . . or heavy metal rockers, one or the other. Either way, there's a good chance we could come out of this draft with one heck of an OL prospect, and probably a pretty good bass player.
Ive heard the Bucs will eat him up at 22 or whenever they pick... I like Whitworth, as previously mentioned
not really the same, LT is harder to find because guys that weigh 300 lbs. usually aren't too agile. 300 lbs. guys who are mean and nasty and strong (RTs) aren't necessarily a dime a dozen, but it's an easier skill set to find.
Do RT's have green hair, big pointy teeth and horns too? From all my years of playing and coaching football, the only difference between the two is you put your best pass blocker on the QB's blind side.
ive said it before take an OL with whatever pick except #4 justice, jean-gilles, winston, callighan, mangold the list could go on. to me ferguson is adrian jones with more promise. jones has started one yr on a shifty OL by a staff which was chasing its own tail. strengthen the other positions and see what he can really do. meanwhile getting the best skill player at 4 or trading down it just depends what u want to do.
Yet I doubt you coach by NFL standards, and I'm not trying to be offensive, however the NFL is different than High School ball. Left ends are usually much bigger (275-300 lbs.) and thus the right tackles have to be bigger mauling type of blockers than left tackles. The rightends are usually much faster off the ball, thus left tackles have to have quick feet, yet don't have to be that big because they are blocking smaller targets. Left ends... Julius Peppers (300 lbs.) Shaun Ellis (295 lbs.) Kyle Vanden Bosch (280 lbs.) Betrand Berry (280 lbs.) Charles Grant (290 lbs.) Reggie Hayward (285 lbs.) Right ends... Dwight Freeney (255 lbs.) Jason Taylor (255 lbs.) John Abraham (265 lbs.) KGB (250 lbs.) Terrell Suggs (260 lbs.) Lance Johnstone (250 lbs.) and so on.
no offense taken ... not even close to NFL level Thanks for learnin me somethin new guys. Appreciate it.
This is definitely part of the reason. Another reason the two positions are different is that most NFL offenses primarily use the right side to run the ball. You need a big, mauling RT to clear a path down the right side of the field. The LT must have quick feet and be more athletic because their primary job is to pass protect and make sure the QB is not blindsided.
All it does is provide depth at the positions. We still need to draft 2 maybe 3 Olineman this year, 2 that can compete for starting positions NOW. Ellis
We still need a monster RT. Other than Jones and Moore, nothing on our OL should yet be set in stone (unless the team doesn't think Katnik is ready to be a starter, and wants to stick with Teague.)
I've read that about Mcneil also. I wouldn't bang my head against a wall if we didn't land him. Like I said earlier, I also wouldn't bang my head if we selected Whitworth later on. No matter how you slice it, we're in a very good position to shore up this offensive line. Lets just hope this new regime shows us something on draft day.
