I always think one of the silliest (though admittedly understandable) message board debates is when fans argue with one another over which teams they "should be rooting for" in relation to their team's playoff status. It really doesn't matter who we root for people! The chips will fall where they may.
The Pats are going to make the playoffs anyway. If we don't get a top seed, more than likely we will be playing the Pats in the playoffs. Either that or we will play the Steelers. Neither of those is a good matchup. We will possibly instead face the Colts or Ravens. NONE of these are good matchups! This is the AFC. You don't get an easy first round matchup. You absolutely want that bye so you can rest and avoid that killer first matchup. If the Steelers beat the Pats, there is a pretty good chance they win out. The only questionable game imo is the Dallas one, but I think the Steelers are the better team. I'd much rather have that game on the Steelers, and maintain that game we already have on the Pats, than have 2 games on the Pats and the Steelers taking the top seed. Nothing would be worse than the Steelers and Titans taking the top 2 seeds, and us facing off against the Colts or Pats in the first round. I'd much rather the Pats and Steelers beat each other up, and the winner staggers into the Meadowlands where we blow them out after having a full extra week to prepare for them.
Honestly I want the Pats gone..... finito. I'm not worried about 5 weeks from now. I'm worried about next week. All I know is a win by the Jets and a loss by the Pats next week brings up a 2 game lead with 4 to go and a game against an awful 49er team and a Seattle team that will be mailing it in by the time we get to them. As for the Steelers, I think we're better than them. Our OL is much better and when you get pressure on Big Ben he makes alot of mistakes. With Parker banged up I'm confident we could shut down the run and Revis will take Ward out of the game. Like I said though, I can't look 5 weeks down the road when we have a game against a division leader next week.
Taking that argument a step further it doesn't matter whether you root for the Jets or not. It doesn't matter.
agreed- neither scenario is detrimental too us, taken care of of our own business is what we need to do-think about it NE loss we win two game lead in division, NE Win- we still lead division and have inside track at # 2 seed- both great positions to be in.
I don't think the Pats will beat Pitt, and I also think Pitt will lose the Dallas game and maybe another one. Balt. or Ten. I also don't think the Jets will lose another game this year. Did you see the way Oak. beat Denver. As long as we don't get ahead of ourselves we wont lose a game. This is a complete team and they are playing like a complete team. I really liked what I say when Farve threw the pick and the defense held them to three plays and out. Go Jets!!!!!!!!!!!
Pitt has a much tougher schedule left then the Pats do, I want to get some distance from the Pats then worry about playoff seeding. I don't think Pitt is all that good and will lose some games the rest of the way, hopefully they beat up on the Pats next week.
So aren't we all glad the Steelers are taking care of business right now? Seriously, if the Patriots won today, we don't have to worry about getting the #1 or #2 seed...we'd have to worry about the team missing the playoffs altogether.
