They are predicting Jets lose the next two & then win out, ending up 11-5. Note they are predicting also that the game after the Titans, with the Broncos, will determine whether or not the Jets gt a first round bye+second round home field. It's an intersting thought. There's a lot of threads going on here suggesting that the Titans game is the most important remaining game. I tend to think SI is more on track here, ultimately winning or losing this Sunday may not matter as much as the following one (and, perhaps, the final one). The Jets most realistic (and critical to achieve) playoff target is #2 seed, not #1. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/dom_bonvissuto/11/18/playoff.projections/index.html?eref=T1
This was a great read. However, I don't see the Jets losing the Denver game. I'm really surprised that so many people seem to be so worried about it. I think the Jets' offense matches up really well with the Broncos' defense. We probably have the best running game in the AFC and Denver's run defense is awful. We also lead the league in drives over 5 minutes long and we are near the top in Time of possession. Denver has a TON of trouble getting off the field and our O-Line has such a huge physical advantage against their D-line. I see us having a lot of long scoring drives in that game and I see their defense being totally gassed in the 4th quarter. Also, they have to travel here. That is a huge advantage. Take a look at the record of the West Coast teams that have had to travel to the east coast to play day games this season. It's remarkably poor. Denver also turns the ball over a lot and our defense forces a lot of turnovers. I do agree that our pass defense, with the way it has played, will have a lot of trouble with Cutler and those excellent wide receivers. However, I just thnk the Jets are far superior on both the offensive and defensive lines, and have a much better all-around team. I could see it being pretty close, however, I look at that game and I see a win.
The key at Denver will be keeping Cutler and the rest of the broncos offense off the field. Their defense can't stop anybody, so we should just run it down their throat and control the flow of the game. We can't afford another shootout like Arizona or San Diego. Revis vs. Marshall will be one hell of a matchup, but is anyone else concerned with Lowery/Law on Royal?
I see the Denver game as another game against Arizona, except without an opposing defense. However, that is next week. Tennessee is this week. p.s. If we beat Tennesse that alters SI's analysis. We end up 12-4 and the Denver game becomes a don't care.
Our O crushes mediocre D's... and calling Denver's D mediocre is a gift... the 2 trap games I see are Buffalo or Miami... you just never know when playing a divison rival
Maybe you have and I just missed it. In any even Shanahan will have a plan. They beat a good Atlanta team on the road this week and they will give us fits.
The only way they've been getting in is by winning the division. The one year we won the division they didn't make it.
Denver is not good enough to win 11 games. The media is in love with Cutler and maybe with justification. But Denver's run game is not what it used to be and their entire defense in all areas is awful. They will not go 5-1 down the stretch.
