If this coaching staff is so terrible, how the hell did Dustin Keller, Cotch, Revis and Harris turn into the players they are? Did they order an internet course on the down-low and get a certificate? That's called coaching folks. If you want to see truly terrible coaching, watch any 9'ers game. Any Lions game. Any Chiefs game....yeah...you remember Herm right? So, do explain how these guys are terrible? Trust me, I'm critical of their many short-comings as well, but they're sure as shit doing something right.
Eric Mangini is the new Bill Parcells -- jerk coach that is great at evaluating and developing talent. Schottenheimer and Sutton is calling the plays. Not Mangini. Schott probably won't go anywhere, but Sutton will more than likely get fired in the off-season. Last night just showed how great Bill Belichick is at coaching -- he's one of the best, if not the best of all time. I hate the guy, but he knows what he's doing...and it shows EVERY season. Mangini will lead these Jets to the playoffs.
Favre was on NFL network after the game singing Scotties praises, about how good he is with mixing stuff up and keeping 'em guessing. The only part of our game which I hate is the bend don't break D, its TOO much bend.
I'd like to see him make better half time adjustments. and i would also like to see him respond faster when the other team switches their game plan up. that 3rd quarter yesterday was agony.
I agree with this bend defense theory of yours. I think when the defense is aggressive, they play much better. Lowery has to learn to locate the ball better, that is whats killing us in pass defense. I often see him eyeing the receiver, and not locating the ball when its in the air.
They need work, but they're far from terrible. In fact, they're getting better. That's something we haven't had in a coaching staff in a long time.
I think BS makes questionable play calls at times, but i think Sutton is the real weak link. There is a reason the prevent defense is essential outdated. He gets so worried about getting beat on deep plays he gives the opposing team a 7 yard pass every down. This defense plays better when they are aggressive. Look at the NYG. They stay aggressive, and it works for them. Their secondary isn't really that great, just solid players. Play to the defenses strengths and not their weakness.
The player coaching is excellent. The issue is the play calling and schemes. How can you tell me that it is ok that Calvin Pace is out in coverage all game long? How can you tell me it is ok that once they took the lead they never sent more than 4 in a rush ever again? The reason this didn't end up being a statement game is because the Jets didn't try to stomp a mudhole in them. They could've easily put this game away early but they allowed New England back into it with a conservative prevent philosophy, the same philosophy that enabled the Raiders to beat us and Kansas City to come close. Cut it any way you want, but that sort of philosophy is going to cost us a major game at some point, regardless of the play of the players.
I can picture, about a dozen times, Lowery in awesome coverage. Corner might be the hardest position in football. If he takes his eyes off the reciever too soon, in man, he will get burnt all day.
Being a DB is more than coverage, he has to learn to locate the ball too. He will learn in time. I expect him to get better. He will get better.
Where is the correlation between players developing and making the right decisions on gameday? They're two totally different things....and position coaches do far more individual player development type stuff than Mangini, Sutton, and Schotty.
I think Sutton would be great as a position coach, but i think it overreaching to make a DC out of him.
They won the game. So yeah all those plays that won the game are the position coaches. I think Bill Callahan drew up the scheme for Keller to be used as the weapon he is. Trust me, Sutton leaves a lot to be desired but if you've watched any Patriots games this year, you know it's no easy task stopping that O. Because Cassel can run like he stole the damn ball, at some point you need to shadow him, otherwise he does what he's been doing for weeks: Run right down the middle for extended yardage. Since the NFL doesn't allow for 12 men on the field you now leave two guys with a clear advantage. Maybe you've heard of them: Wes Welker and Randy Moss. In case you haven't noticed they can catch and one of them can catch and make people miss, routinely. It is what it is, and they won.
did anyone read mangini's lips after the TD before the half? he was pissed with Sutton playcalling. it was something along " HOW THE FUCK COULD YOU LET THEM GET THIS MOMENTUM????"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?????
Are you trying to convince us that they are good or something? Even Mangini knows that the play selection sucks. He reeled Shotty back in. He may have to do the same to Sutton. All that said, They will kill us in games with the playcalling. I understand you think they could be worse, and they could, but they arent by any means "great". They are really average to slightly below.
