Just because we signed so and so doesn't necessarily effect the draft

    Avoiding the Reach

Tangini has done quite a bit to remove all the temptation the every dreaded "reach pick" can provide.

We still fell a little short. We need to sign one more FA tackle and I think they could pass on anyone based soley on position. I don't know if they are working on a "hold the fort" RT but I would really like to see one before the draft, if only for the fact that I won't be waiting for that position to be filled and that rookie won't have to come in with unrealistic expectations.

Signing one after the draft is always an option, free agent rookie or a cut from another team.

Back to the point. We need depth at any and every position. They are positioning themselves for a BPA draft and thats a good thing.

I agree, I posted this in one of the other threads about Teague, but it probably fits better here.

It is all about Options now.

The beauty of this signing by the FO is again, it gives the team options. If they dont think Katnick is the future, and are ok with Teague in the short term, they can take Mangold, or they can pass, and pick up Eslinger later, or even another guy deeper, but we are not going into the draft with a complete void at a position. Worst case this provides depth, best case, we get a starter and can take BPA at each spot in the draft. I am very pleased with what Tangini is doing.

To elaborate on this even further, Teague started in the league as an OT, he is 6' 5" and 300+ lbs (i think)... so we don't necessarily have to keep him under center. If we don't plan to take an O-lineman until pick #35 and Mangold is there as the highest graded C, then we can take him regardless of signing Teague. Maybe Mangold starts, maybe he doesn't but because Teague can play OT it gives us the freedom to take the best available OL, instead of just drafting whatever OT is leftover and passing on a C with a higher grade.

Great post! It looks like the FO are doing the things that they need to to build a deep strong team! The players that they are signing have experience in multiple positions giving us more flexibility for when the injury bug hits.
