Well, if I had to pick the guy based on his career, obviously I would take the first-ballot Hall of Famer. But if I had to pick 2008 Favre or 2008 Pennington, based on performance to date I would take Pennington in a heartbeat. He has been a much better quarterback than Favre this year. (By the same token, however great Marino was, Marino in 1999 was not so hot.) Also, if you are giving me an expansion team, Pennington is going to make all his teammates better. It's unbelievable how much more professional, crisp and poised the Dolphins offense looks this year compared to last year. I am sure the coaching helps, but the players say Pennington deserves a lot of the credit.
So if he needs a running game to succeed why has he been successful w/ a medicore running game this year? especially w/ the awful WRs he has to throw to. Who are the top notch D's we've faced? Favre had a good ground game against the awful Raider D and still could only lead us to 13 pts in 5 qtrs. Chad had a TORN rotator cuff against Pitt. We ctually had an ok running game that day and not many QBs excel in January w/o a running game. How did Brett do w/ an ineffective Ryan Grant in the title game last year? It's pointless, you are making an excuse for favre and taking a shot at Chad when any objective fan can see who is playing better. Ask any knoieledgable football fan that doesn't have a Favre or Jets bias and you'll get your answer. There is a big reading problem on this board. I have said over and over and over again that these results were SO FAR and that I thought Favre would evebtually pass him but that's not guaranteed and SO FAR Chad has outplayed him, SO FAR Favre has cost us 1-2 wins. ou can be content w/ being 5-3, I see 1-2 games we lost that we should have won and those 1-2 games may make the difference btw a div title, playoff spot or missing the playoffs. I EX{ECT Favre will get better, it was nice to see him finally take a positive step last week. Let's hope we can build on it, if we do then there are no worries but if he reverts to Cincy-Oak-KC form we are in trouble. I agree w/ your first paragraph and thank you for noticing. Favre hasn't gotten it done in 13 years so neither is proven in winning big games in January this decade. I was not on board for the trade but I wnat to win. I WANT TO BE WRONG ABOUT THIS, I'm not right now but I hope that changes. You are a Packer/favre fan. don't tell me I wouldn't be happy winning w/ Favre. I don't care who is behind C, I want to win. You will never get it. We were going to be a playoff contender w/ Chad. We made the favre trade, that ratchets up expectations so no getting to the postseason isn't good enough now. I expected around 10 wins, if we don't win more than 10 or make a run to the title game then the trade wasn't worth it in my opinion b/c we had a team w/o him that was capable of making the postseason and winning a game. I'm not trying to prove Chad is better, he cleary is so far this year. Is Chad halthy? is it the 39 year old version of favre? If it's Favre in his prime I take Favre if it's 39 yr old Favre vs. a healthy Chad in his prime I take Chad.
See, this is what I don't get; You say Brett hasn't gotten it done in 13 years, right? I want to know what you consider "getting it done" because Chad hasn't gotten it done either. You have to admit Favre has played better than Chad for the vast majority of those 13 years, regardless of his last minute INT last year. If you consider last year a failure for Favre, you're not really looking at this objectively. There were many many games that Chad could not get it done, if that's the case and if you look at how deep into the playoffs each player has gone in the past 8 years, Chad isn't even in the realm of not getting it done. He never even started. He had 1-2 good years and the rest by any standards were failures. If you're going to use stats to back up your argument, fine, so far this year the only stats Chad lead in are YPA/C, INTs and rating. Fine. If you can't put the ball in the EZ those stats are meaningless at minute 61. Favre has given up many more ints but also has way more TDs. TDs DO matter in minute 61. We also have another win, including a win over Chad's Dolphins, where Chad had the opportunity to win that game, but threw the pick. There's no way to spin this in Chad's favor. For anyone to say we would be as good if not better is nothing more that pure conjecture. YOu can't debate with both. It's one or the other. Who says if Chad were here, he still plays the way he's playing? Getting fired will light a fire under anyone's ass.
Also, to pick Chad over Favre merely based on those 3 stats is very very short-sighted. One guys has started every game for almost 2 decades and the other has missed a very decent percentage of his games due to injury. If you are putting together a team, that should be a large concern. If not, then 8 wins might be enough for you to feel good about your team. But if you put injury to the line or chad into the equation, you have to go with Ironman. Someone on the line gets hurt, your #2 might not be able to protect and that means your QB with a history of serious injuries has a much larger possibility of not finishing the season.....again.
Favre is a joke - He's not in the top ten !!! He's the INT king!! - Get over it please !! OOHHH! I'm addicted to pain killers - who cares anyway !! Since you mentioned iron man -- how about Ronnie Lott !!
But Brett is supposed to be the greatest of all time according to you and others, Chad isn't. Chad is just a good, solid NFL QB. I never said Chad's career was better than Favre's. Favre is going to the Hall, Chad is not. Chad rescued us from 1-4, 2-5 to lead us to only our 2nd ever AFC East Title and he interrupted a DYNASTY in the process. He hsn't rached a title game(thanks to Doug Brien) but the AFC has been much stronger. he never lost a home playoff game, he never lost to a medicore team in te playoffs. Favre lost at HOME to Atlanta and 8-8 Minnesota. he's putting his O in the EZ, just b/c they run it near the GL doesn't mean his O isn't scoring. They are only averaging 2 less PPG w/ half the talent and if you take away some garbage time points we are about equal w/ Miami in points scored. You guys fail to realize our D has scored 21 points- that doesn't count for our O and Favre has thrown/fumbled away 28 points. 9 of his Tds came in 2 games, 1 all garbage time. he hasn't ben consistent but I do appreciate you acting civil in these posts. That dolphin game never should have been close, we controlled it nearly all game but a Favre fumble and Favre's O not being able to put Miami away gave Chad and Miami a chance which they never should have had. He's always played this way when healthy. I'm not taking Chad's career over favre, I am merely saying he's been better this year and he has. I don't know if Chad will end up w/ the better year(I hope not) but as of today through 8 games Chad has been better and ther's no question about it.
Hey Champ, We have some posters here who I am sure would be very interested in where they could go to some fish fan site and go on at length in their manlove for all things Chadwickian. Why don't you lend them a hand?

I do as i please !! You jet fans come to our site and do the same - if the topic is worth commenting then i will comment - Brett best QB, i couldn,t resist !! Chad vs. Favre - Chad all day long !! Not picking on the jets but its the truth even though i hate all NY teams - Bottom line - Jets picked Favre just for a few wins , it will hurt you in the long run !! My point - jets should've kept Chad , he was a great QB besides his injuries but now he's healthy and doing a great job for us since we didn't have a QB at all- Thanks for Chad !!!
Nevermind, this thread has long ago become pointless. I'm deleting this post and will use all self control to avoid reading or posting to this anymore.
puddnhead, I don't have much time for debate these days or I would be here debating on your side. Well job my friend. The bottom line is The Jets have something historic happening here and most are embracing it. I am happy to know that all Brett's records will be finalized with him in a Jet's uniform and am hopeful we may once again see; yet again; another historic moment for Brett and the Jets. Cheers friend
Well for starters, I have not made a SINGLE excuse for anything regarding Favre on any post since I got here. That is a complete and utter fabrication. I have agreed with you that Favre has not played well this year from the beginning. I have never excused his playoff INT's. I've very plainly asked you to stay consistent in your arguments, and oddly enough, not make excuses of your own. No matter how you look at it, statements like, "he wasnt healthy", "he is in a tough division", "he had a tougher schedule", are excuses. There are plenty of Chad-lovers on this board, and I don't have a problem with that. The problem is that you take your views as FACT and others as WRONG. Again I've told you many times that I don't think Favre is playing that well this year. You just get upset and defensive when I say that I don't think Penny is playing well either. Penny's numbers this year are better than Favre's. Favre has more wins and beat him head to head. So I just don't see how it is so cut and dry who is playing better. I respect your opinion that you think Penny is playing better because his #'s or better. Why can you not respect my opinion that I would rather have an quarterback playing ugly, but winning games? Then you take a step further and say that Penny is better in the last decade. I mean seriously?!?! Talk about asking a person "not biased by the Jets or Favre". I would be surprised if Chad got 10% of the vote. Again its like you expect everyone to agree with you that we should overlook all his injuries. But at the time you don't respect other people's opinion that they in no way, shape, or form want a QB who misses 5 to 6 games a year. I have plenty of friends that are die-hard Elway or Montana or Marino fans. The difference in debating with them is that even though the other person doesn't agree with you, they at least acknowledge that they can see where you are coming from. You completely lack this ability.
Pennington has been playing well but... Favre = 12 TD's CP = 7 This was always his problem. If he can find a way to win without throwing TD's than good for him but he couldnt do it here ever since he got hurt and I doubt it will last with Miami. I would take the guy that can throw TD's and manage the game over the guy who can only manage the game.
Thanks. The ironic thing is, I actually agree to some degree that Favre at this point in his career has lost something from his game. Where I disagree is this idea that he didn't have room to lose something and still be very very good. I sense you, like me, actually watched Favre play in the mid 90s (and aren't just looking at stats on nfl.com today) and cannot fathom how people can be posting such clueless statements without being embarrassed. The idea that three consecutive MVPs, if nothing else, is meaningless, is just ... bizarre beyond belief. How can these guys not be embarrassed, and realize they are pissing away all credibility with knowledgeable fans? I wish I could find that quote where Reggie White talks about how the only real reason he signed with Green Bay was because he'd played against Favre the previous season (Favre's first), and that even though the Packers were struggling ot get back to .500 at that time, Reggie realized that Green Bay was the path to that ring he coveted, purely because he (a veteran and the best defensive player of his day) had never seen a QB lead a team like this rookie wearing #4. Then I'd like to sit back and watch the idiots here argue that Reggie White didn't know anything about quarterbacks and how they play under pressure, they know better, lol.
Im willing to bet there are some posts out there of you (or at least the many others miami fans) who are in love with Chad now, that exclaimed how much he sucked over the past few seasons when he was a Jet. Im sure there were terms like "noodle arm" thrown around at will when we were playing the dolphins. Its amazing how suddenly he is a "better QB than Favre" You guys are classic, its BRETT FAVRE for christ sakes. Do you really think Chad will ever make the Hall of Fame? A better QB than Favre? I mean what are you guys smoking? Yes, he is doing a good job for you guys but it wont last and im going to be laughing my ass off when it falls apart. :finssuck:
This stat in my mind proves that all along it has been the conservative coaching and not the quarterback. If the Jets bring in an Hall of Fame QB who can make any throw and in Miami Pennington who lacks arm strength is having better numbers then Favre this goes to show you that Mangini and Schotty are extremely conservative.
Brett - Rat 87.8 180 cmp ATT 263 1812 yds INT - 12 - Wow! Chad - Rat 95.2 163 cmt ATT - 242 1991 yds 4 INT YOU TAKE YOUR PICK !!!!!
