I think Jenkins has a legit shot at being defensive player of the year, forget the pro bowl. Unfortunatrly, some of his comp might be John Abraham, but really, who else is having an impact year on this side of the ball like Jenkins? If he stay healthy and keep playing at this level, and the Jets make the playoffs I think he is in position to win this award. Besides rookie of the year, Have the Jets ever had - an offensive MVP, Defensive MVP, or MVP.
haynesworth will be getting a lot of votes at this point, he is having a simular impact in Tennessee, but they are undefeated
My candidates: Albert Haynesworth DeMarcus Ware James Harrison/Lamaarr Woodey - Whoever you like better. I like Woodley. Kris Jenkins Darrelle Revis (2 Jets!!) Shaun Rogers - Not enough tangible effects on the total D. Despite how well he's played, the Browns are still like 28th against the run. Other guys I like so far but probably won't get consideration: Finnegan on the Titans. He was great for them last year, now he's one of the guys with 4 INTs to lead the league. Barrett Ruud - One of the most underrated MLB's in the league IMO. The picture will get more clear as the season goes on...but Jenkins has been a monster. He is right up there with Haynesworth this year. If the Jets play like they can...he might actually get some credit for his play.
definitely Porter, he has been a monster. And Haynesworth. I have been racking my brains, a Jet has never won one of those major awards besides Hugh Douglas and Vilma winning DROY. No MVP awards on either side of the ball.
And forget the Pro Bowl....to me the Pro Bowl is a joke. I really hope Revis or Jenkins make first team all Pro.
I think Jets fans know of Jenkins worth. But does the average media guy ? Haynesworth and Porter have a much higher national profiles.
Noones had an impact on a defense like Jenkins has had. BUT, they choose DPOY based on sacks, thus a 3-4 NT will NEVER win DPOY, no matter how much he deserves it. probably 90% of the time it goes to the guy with the most sacks
Haynsworth, he ancors the best D in the League and he´s the biggest reason why the Titans are undefeaded.
Haynesworth also has 6 sacks (compared to 3 for Jenkins) and 19 solo tackles (compared to 15 for Jenkins), so at this point I can't see Jenkins getting it ahead of him.
When its all said and done Jenkins can be the DPOY especially if he out plays haynesworth and we win against the faggot Titans and there baby blue.
Jenkins' national coverage has taken off due to the way he played on sunday. He is definitely in the mix.
Stats aren't everything. Jenkins, especially from last week, is outplaying Haynesworth. Haynesworth's advantages are better surrounding players and better coaching. You take Van den Bosch out and Haynesworth doesn't do much. Meanwhile, you can't say the same for Jenkins, he really doesn't have anyone all that impressive next to him.
