There are rumors that the raiders will be releasing a number of players this week with high cap numbers.. Javon Walker's name was among the ones listed as possible cap casualties...

It's an interesting thought because walker played with favre in GB, and we all know he is very talented. It's not that I don't like our receivers right now.. I do.. and you can talk about Favre not being in sync or the receivers just not being able to get open or the play calling or whatever you want. But the fact is that Favre has an established rapport with Walker and he would bring a threat to our offense which would open up a lot of other things for us in terms of the passing AND running game.

We've already taken the "win now" attitude by some of you on this board by signing all of these free agents and the such.. so why not go all out and make a move that could put us over the top?

I mean, Coles is getting old and is constantly injured.. Cotch is great, but do you really think he can be a dominant #1? He can do so much more as a compliment.

I know the issue of price is going to come up. Well here's the thing.. he's being released so who ever picks him up for this year will probably get him at a pretty good discount compared to signing him in the offseason. Still expensive probably.. but I think totally worth it considering what he would bring.

    Bring on your thoughts fellas.

Nah. Coles, Cotchery, Stuckey, Keller, Smith is good enough.

Favre likes taking a few down the field chances each game. Last year, he had Greg Jennings to throw to, so it worked out great. This year, he has no big time deep threats. The WRs can't create the seperation necessary for the deep bomb. I'm not sure how Walker's health is, but he looked decent against us. Walker and Favre did have a little spat when he didn't report to camps when he wanted a new contract, but Walker has said in the past his issues were with management not Favre and he was quoted last year as saying that he would like to play with the Packers/Favre again. Why don't we give Clowney any playing time to see what he can do? They have yet to activate him.

Javon Walker is not a bad idea.

But you'd have to ask Bret.

The rest of us message board morons should have no opinion.

    (Sorry, guys!)

Walker makes more sense than Hall, but at this point, I'd rather stick with what I got.

Hall is washed up...as is Walker. He's been a 2008 version of Elvis Patterson. He's been getting toasting all season long.

Walker is also a whiner, always begging for the ball. I think he and Coles could clash.

Very talented receiver back in the day. Probably one of the top 5 WR's Favre's thrown to in his 17 yr career which says a lot.

Randy Moss had no problem doing so last year. But he is a special case. Walker has been cooked since the Darrent Williams shooting. Its sad, the dude was talented.

Plus his knees aren't near healthy.

I don't see much to gain by picking him up. On the other hand, signing him for a week or two to see how much he has left physically and mentally couldn't hurt. Generally, I think we have some good WRs waiting in the wings (Stuckey, Henry, Wright - a monster on special teams - and that guy who got hurt in preseason games from Green Bay who was good on long balls) that I would like to see have a chance. Also, I think one of the Jets' biggest needs is a WR who can stretch the field - Coles and Cotchery are more possession-type guys at this time. Not sure Walker fits that bill. On the other hand, if Brett and Walker could click, another weapon might be nice.

I guess I just don't know. Seems little to gain and little to lose if we give it shot.

Uh, just so you know ... the "established rapport" Favre has with Walker is that they are probably pretty much pissed off with each other (unless fences have been mended). This is how Walker's departure from Green Bay went down: Walker had a multi-year contract with Green Bay that he signed the year before, but decided he should be paid more than he was, given how he'd played since signing it. So he held out. And held out. And held out. Favre calls out Walker that he should honor his word and show up already, stop holding out. This makes Walker twice as ornery, and ultimately the Packers trade him away to Broncos for some ridiculously undersized compensation, just to get rid of the headache.

    That is the "established rapport."

ADDED: Let's just let Brett speak for himself here:
Link. It only gets worse from there, eventually Walker proclaims that Favre has made living in Wisconsin any more impossible for him, people there start ridiculing him in public, and that he'd rather retire from football then ever play with teh Packers (and Favre?) again. This thing between Favre and Walker is actually a big reason a lot of NFL fans turned on Favre a few years ago ...

The Walker idea is intriguing since him and Favre were a great tandem in Green Bay... Def should consider it jets.

Walker will probably go to Miami (Parcells can work with that kind of guy) and Hall to NE...just great.

    Pass on Walker

If you want a deep threat, how about having Clowney active.

Walker gives you a better deep threat and a better short threat too because of his size. But still, I'd only sign him if it was very very cheap. And I doubt he would want to do that.

lets just consider a couple things here - and btw, im the first person to laugh at every single "this team just released this guy, should the jets sign?" thread - Not one receiver on our squad..stucky, smith, henry, or clowney is even close to be as talented as walker.

yes you could wait and see how they develop, but i mean, stucky already showed us all against KC why he is a liability. These guys we have are still RAW.. when it comes to route running, they pale in comparison to someone like walker.

Walker's mental state is obviously a concern.. but again.. bring him in for cheap and let him prove himself.. worst comes to worse, you get rid of him at the end of the year. He is still a better option to have on the field than anyone but cotch right now.

And don't even get me started on clowney.. the guy had some good games against a bunch of scrubs.. he got a lot of people excited, but he hasn't proven anything against NFL calibur defenses and the fact that he's not even on the active roster tells me that the coaching staff sees it the same way... his injury is another story and its possible that they are playing it safe. I guess we will see towards the end of the season.. If this guy starts to see some PT, then we will know how the CS sees him as a contributor.
