This guy has been amazing this year. Through the miracle of Tivo I have watched this guy very closely the last 2.5 years. After two below average years he has proven every bit the #4 player picked this year. He has been dominant. Dominating indeed. By my count, he has allowed one sack (late in the out of reach SD game), had one penalty (false start, best of our O-Linemen) and maybe two pressures. He has also been much better in the run game. I tend to be a tough grader and I think he should be in the Pro Bowl. Obviously, I do not watch other Offensive Tackles but I can't imagine anyone being better. In my mind, he has been the most positive surprise of this team. If you disagree, re-watch any game this season and see if a DE gets anywhere close to Favre. Thoughts??
The guy worked hard in the offseason and its paying off. Brick is an excellent Left Tackle who will start for 10 years. At the end of this year, everyone should appreciate how good Brick really is.
You are correct, sir. The man has been very solid. The haters won't be anywhere near this thread. You can see his game grow and he wasn't that bad his first two years as people made him seem. As a former O-line guy I watch the line extensively. While pass blocking his balance and quickness in reacting to the rusher is better this year. He doesn't reach his long arms and frame out as much as he used to. He is staying more compact and square and with his natural frame he has learned that he can extend guys out or in if they get a step on him. Just a small change in technique has made a big difference for him. Probably something to do with Callahan as well.
I agree with everything you said, but would like to add a few comments. I wasn't a big fan of the D' brick pick, but over the first two years I felt he played reasonably well. He had two problems. He was very weak at the POA in the running game. As the season wore on he appeared to lose weight, and both his stamina, and strength faded. Reports were out that he was finishing seasons in the 280's. Not acceptable for an OT in the NFL. He has given up twice as many sacks in the second half of the season as he did the first half. At the end of the last two seasons he was getting rolled on bull rushes. When he came to camp this year he was noticeably bigger. As the season unfolded it was clear he had retained his speed, and was much stronger. He is having an excellent season. Still not where I would like him in the running game, but vastly improved. Another year and another 6-8 pounds of muscle, and this kid may be the elite LT the Jets had hoped for. Right now he is very good.
No, Vince Young or Vernon Davis. The front office has drafted so well in 3 drafts. Gholston is a real question mark but way to early to say is a bust. In three drafts we added Mangold, Brick, Leon Washington, Brad Smith, Revis, Harris, Stuckey and Keller. All guys who have shown that they are great at what they do and will be a part of this team a long time.
No its not, he is a bust. He may someday be an adequate 3rd or 4th round pick but he will never be a number 6 overall pick.
don, would you have hated and called everyone a bust that we got with our first pick besides mcfadden?
If we define bust as "contributed significantly this year" then DMC would also be a bust. He had one great game but has been too injured to contribute after that. To say that Gholston will "never be a number 6 overall pick" is, quite simply, just ignorant. It is way to early in his career to tell what kind of player he will end up. Have patience with him. With the way our OLBs have been playing this year, there has been no need to rush him along.
He's not awesome or the best but if you was to look back at the draft today, other than maybe Mario Williams i would still have taken D'Brick.
is this serious, the guy who can't get a sniff of the field in his 3rd season, please tell me you are joking?
so is perfect game yesterday is not awesome??? Does he have to strike down the opposing DE like a god for you to be happy. Keep up the trolling.
Where do I start. Let me see he works his ass off in the offseason and has steadily improved since he was a rookie. ........ I really can not use that stupid pos sack number because it sucks heavy D. That and I refused to use it last year when Brick had supposedly given up 11 sacks 7 of which were really Clark. That stat is the most bogus stat I have ever seen in my life. Anyway, Brick is credited with what 1 or 2 this year. Not too mention almost any pressure on the left side is because of Faneca, as he is not very good in pass protection. That being said he is locking down that side on almost every pass play and he is steadily improving in run blocking. Funny he has been the best O-lineman on this team overall and if you look in the "vote for the pro-bowl thread" people here want to vote Faneca and Mangold in over him....... ok whatever even though IMHO that is a joke. Judging from all the games I have seen there is not another LT having an appreciably better season then Brick, a case can be made for run blocking, yes, but definitely not pass blocking. Is he a probowler..... probably not yet ...... that being said...... you guys have the green glasses on...... Brick is a total bust.
