I think I see your POV: literally everyone is terrible. Not jsut the Rams, Broncos, 49ers, Seahawks, and Dolphins, but literally the Jets themselves. I guess I have a hard time knowing how to speak on this wavelength. When I watch multiple NFL football games each week, what I see is not a bunch of incompetent clods who "trip over their own feet," but a collection of amazing athletes who regularly stun me with their virtuosity, and > 50% of the players on the field at any given time are capable of a monster play on that snap. So I guess that makes it really hard for me to say that any game is a "gimmee." If the Jets literally were terrible, I wouldn't bother to watch even if they were winning (I only watch games like that when someone I'm related to is playing, lol) And thank god for that. I watched a bunch of Pats games last year, and the only ones that were enjoyable to watch were Giants and Ravens. I find blowouts where NFL records are set, etc (like Brady and Moss did) to be boring to watch, not good things to see. Maybe that's why I like Favre so much, he is rarely in games where the outcome seems determined going into the 4th, one way or the other.
The funny thing is this 2008 Jets team has alot of eerie similarities to the 1968 team at this point. Although Favre is a bit past his prime compared to Namath in 1968, both QBs had early season INT troubles. Namath blew a couple of early season games with untimely INTS including a loss to a terrible Bills team - comparable to this year's Oakland team. In fact Walt Michaels, the defensive coordinator, got pissed enough to call out Namath during team meetings and asked him to tone down the downfield passing and allow the defense to win games. (I think after this incident there was a span of five or six games in which Namath only threw a couple of TD passes but the Jets won all of those games) The 2008 team on this point seems to be on the verge of figuring themselves out for the better and are looking at a schedule that doesn't seem too intimidating. I'm sure the Rams game will be closer than it should be but I do fully expect these Jets to go into Foxboro and win. I know the Titans are 8-0 but are they unbeatable? No way. The Jets match up very well in this game also. Any other games stand out? After the Heidi game, the 1968 Jets straightened out and didn't lose a game the rest of the way. Obviously, there will not be another Heidi game but I think the Jets are going 6-2 the rest of the way and will finish division champs with the # 2 seed in a very mediocre conferance. Barring major injuries of course.....
There is a lot of truth to this statement...the same old Jets would blow this game....this game will tell us pretty much everything we need to know about how this season may turn out... Interesting Fact: The Jets have lost seven straight games to the Rams, many of those Rams teams being piss poor...the last time the Jets beat the Rams was in 1983 at Shea Stadium in OT...the famous Mark Gastineau-Jackie Slater brawl game..
Jets played a really good game on sunday! I was pissed in the 1st qrt when they could not turn the fumble into a TD. The Jets do have a punchers chance to make the playoffs. Lets not however count them chickens before they hatch. Worry about the rams because i am sure the cowboys and redskins thought they could just show up and beat the rams. Nothing is for shure in todays nfl. I am just glad we have a share of the lead in the division. :jets:
HA! Jim Mora said it best...."Playoffs?" (great video response) I had an inkling that the jets would pull of a solid win in buffalo this weekend, but I also have a strong feeling that they might lose to this rams team (maybe its just me being a jets fan) If we are able to get a solid victory over the rams and then go and play the patriots hard, then maybe we can talk about.......PLAYOFFS...
Hopefully Jenkins can stay healthy the whole way. Imagine playing the Titans without Jenkins, would be one depressing game.
they'd run for 300 yrds again. With Jenkins- maybe 95. Maybe. That will be a low scoring game. The problem is- TEN doesn't commit turnovers, the Jets love to.
Jets fans were optimistic after a great 2004 season, in 2005 we sucked Jets fans were pessimistic after a terrible 2005 season, we did well in 2006 Jets fans were optimistic after an overachieving 2006 season, 2007 we sucked Jets fans were optimistic after a bunch of huge offseason moves in 2008, we sucked against Miami, NE, and San Diego Jets fans were pessimistic after a bad start in 2008, we go out and kill Arizona Jets fans were optimistic after a big win against Arizona, we played poorly against Cincy, Oakland, and KC Jets fans were pessimistic after a bad 3 game stretch, we go out and play the Bills tough and get a big road win See the trend? Let's stay pessimistic please!
Well I completely agree with you. I think if there is one team in the NFL that can shut down the Titans run game, its us. Kris Jenkins is a complete Manimal, and Pace Thomas and Harris (Who is expected to return by this time) are phenoms against the run, not to mention Ellis, and oh yeah Kenyon Colemans strength is against the run. on the flip side, we have a solid OL that can get out and run screens, and Draws and pull on reverses and flee-flickers and we can develop enough of a run game to help Favre enough to help him put up 20, and make Collins beat us. I just don't think he can do that. and the Jets could potentially shock the world...
And that's why i'm 5'11" 185 lbs, 21 years old and have the blood pressure of a 50 year old 250lbs man
i have a feeling we will lose a heart breaker right before the TENN game and then take care of business and "shock the world" with an impressive win against the Titans
