Revis Gives a Lesson in What He Learned

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. ? Every week, regardless of the outcome in the previous game or the opponent in the next one, Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis and safety Kerry Rhodes watch extra film together.

Fitting for a week that included Halloween, last week?s session, in which they concentrated on the Bills, proved to be something from the horror genre.

The film showed the Jets? games against Buffalo last season, when the Bills threw at Revis, then a rookie cornerback, with a variety of passes and as often as they could. The Jets lost both games, and Revis had his welcome to the N.F.L., especially in the game played here at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

?They were killing him,? Rhodes said. ?They got at him a little bit.?

    He paused.

?He?s definitely not the same guy now.?

Revis started every game his rookie season, and although he played well over all, his improvement is clear halfway through this season. Teammates are starting a clamor for Revis to make the Pro Bowl. Opposing defenses are learning it is not wise to throw his way.

?He?s making every play that comes his way,? Rhodes said.

In the first quarter Sunday, with the Jets trailing by 7-3, Revis rushed Bills quarterback Trent Edwards from the left. Edwards never saw him, and Revis forced a fumble and recovered it.

Revis said the Jets? coaches told him last week that Edwards sometimes kept the ball low. Good tip. The Jets kicked a field goal to cut the lead to 7-6.

If Revis helped spark the Jets? defensive resurgence, he also helped finish it. Late in the fourth, with the Jets ahead by 26-17, Revis went up for a jump ball near the end zone. Typical of a cornerback who once thought he would play in the N.B.A., Revis came down with the ball. Game over.

Revis has four interceptions this season, one of which, against the Cardinals, he returned for a touchdown. Those Buffalo games from last season seem like a distant memory.

?The past is the past,? Revis said. ?We?ve moved on. The only thing we can do is learn from watching film.?

Even when the picture is a horror movie.

Getting swept by the Bills, thank god that kind of Jets team is in the rear view mirror.

i know that (if it exists) its a skewed stat because we don't know what the defensive assignment is, but is there a stat that measures the amount of times or percentage a ball is thrown a DB's way vs catches that the receiver has or passes defensed/picked off? Does what i said make any sense at all?
