While I think the Jets will lose this game, I absolutely hate stats like this. What's his record when there is a full moon in November? It just doesn't matter, especially seeing how he's on a completely different team. I'm sure this Bills team is much different than the ones he's faced over the course of his career too. Not to mention, he's only one player on the team.
EXCELLENT POST. I completely agree. Stats like this one mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. They are statistical anomolies and are worthless for predicting future outcomes.
Really? Not to call you out or anything but could you give us your reasoning for thinking this way? I mean, I agree the Bills deserve to be favored as they are undefeated at home and have played much more consistently than the Jets. However, who exactly have the Bills blown out all season? They have beaten a lot of mediocre teams in close games. They "kinda" blew out seattle just like the Jets "kinda" blew out Arizona. Which one of those is more impressive? The only difference in the two teams right now is that the Jets lost a close game in Oakland while the Bills won a close game, at home, against Oakland (In a game, in which Oakland was winning by 9 points with 4 minutes left). Again, I totally agree that the Bills have played better and should be favored because they are at home and have been very solid at home, however, I just don't see the Bills as being leagues above the Jets, and, in point of fact, I think the Jets are more talented, and on their best day, are more than capable of beating the Bills. But hey, we'll see.
I'm a classic Jets-fan defeatist, but I've got a funny feeling about this game. I like that everyone thinks the Bills will run away with it.
I'm with you. I've felt that way all week. I also think the Bills are a little overrated in the national media. (They love the bills)
It wouldn't surprise me at all if we came out and won this game. I think if this game was in NY, we'd be favoured.
There are alot of succesful sports betters that would disagree that trends are meaningless.... I'm not making my prediction based on a trend only that I think Buffalo is better.
I think we are more talented, but I don't think our coaching is there. I also think they'd probably blow out the Chiefs.
I hear you, but I would tell those people that they ARE meaningless. I don't think enough people apply their college statistics classes (I happen to be a mechanical engineer with a concentration in fluid mechanics) to real life. They are called COINCIDENCES and they happen all the time. Another way of saying this is that correlation does NOT imply causation. Just because one event happens when another even happens, in no way proves that one event caused the other one, or even HELPED cause the other one. Thus, two events occuring could be totally independent of each other, and yet, have a high correlation. This happens every once in a while between events that don't seem to have any logical connection (Like the Favre in Buffalo statistic that started this conversation).
Fair enough, but I just have a hard time seeing a blowout. But I totally agree that they deserve to be favored. (I happen to have a strange feeling about the Jets pulling this one out, but then again, I tend to be a rather optimistic Jets fan)
