We beat the Colts in the SB what don't you understand about the fact that we beat the Chiefs that year beat Oakland that year in the playoffs and the Colts that year. Bottom line Junc this is your agenda to defend Herm and Chad and this is another attack by you on Namath who you never saw play and the one great Jets team in the history of this franchise. You simply love to defend mediocrity because that's all you know when it comes to Jets football. Bottom line Herm wasn't good enough to be on that teams staff and Chad would have been sitting on the bench. And to the Favre fans he would be on the bench as well that year.
Ftr I have put junc on ignore, so I would appreciate if others not repeat his arguments. Thanks in advance.
Now you are including regular season wins? We thrashed a 12-3 team that year does that count? We beat the '01, '03 and '04 Champs on the road(they wouldn't lose in NE for 3 more years) does that count? I am defending the truth, let's not act like the '68 jets had a difficult path. They ahd to win ONE HOME game to gte to the SB, their division stunk and no matter how many excuses you make that won 't change those facts. Who said Herm was as good as Weeb? Who said Chad was as good as a HEALTHY Namath? Now you are making things up b/c as usual you don't have a good argument. The whole point of this argument was that Joe and his teams had their share of awful losses and allowed bad teams to play well against them just as this team has done but you kep defending the fact that he only led us to 2 postseason apps.
To people like you who don't like to deal w/ facts but to anyone who is objective they can plainly see what my "agenda" is and it's all about the truth. Instead of always telling me I am wrong how about you actually try to prove it once in a while?
I've seen plenty of people prove you wrong, and you take some stats that serve your argument and tell them you're right and they are wrong. You don't listen to anyone, junc. You have an idea in your head and you take what you want from games and stats and try to prove everyone wrong with them, and when it doesn't work, you tell people that you are giving them reality and they can't deal with it. It's pretty much a waste of an effort. Don't get me wrong, man, you make a lot of compelling arguments, and I have sided with a lot of them. And then I see the reality at the end of the season and I realize why I shouldn't have. But the fact is, I've never seen you concede an argument once in the past 7 years I've been here. But maybe you can provide me with a quote and prove me wrong.
Blah, blah, blah. You have seen plenty of people hold the same opinion as you but they haven't proven me wrong. I don't need to prove you wrong you need to prove me wrong and there are times I concede points. It happens every once in a while when others actually prove a point of mine to be incorrect. You haven't done that, you talk, talk, talk but don't back anything up. I'm still waiting for you to show me how Herm always deflected criticism but took credit for victories. He did it all the time yuo say so it should only take a inute to find proof.
Hey, let's play a game. I will ask you a question, and you can ignore it, then find a post of me bashing Herm and ask me to prove it. Then I will tell you that it's a waste of time because you pick and choose your arguments, then you can take that instance and continue to bring it up in every post after that until the end of time. And then you can just BS to me how you've ever conceded a point on this board. And I don't mean any minor point. Please, it took you until past midseason last year to admit that Chad needed to sit last season to see what else we had at QB and past midseason in 2005 to admit that Herm should go, even after he had already given up on the team. You are like a fortune teller sent from the past. The things you concede are what everyone already knows.
Wow, I guess not. Plus I don't think they had infant seats back then. I was 9 days shy or 2 when the Jets won Super Bowl III.
They didn't have seat belts back than and the dash boards were generally made of steel with lots of dials and little chrome things sticking out. It was always fun to have the AM dial embedded in your forehead for a week after mom rear ended someone in the parking lot.
Another "woe is me"/"the league is out to get the Jets" post. It had nothing to do with the Jets. In 1969, the AFL added an extra playoff round to make money and to make sure their teams didn't have two weeks off after the conclusion of the regular season. It is important to note that the AFL started and ended its season a full week before the NFL started and ended its season. AFL Division Playoff Games 12/20/69: Chiefs at Jets 12/21/69: Oilers at Raiders The NFL regular season closed on 12/21. *** NFL Western Conference Championship 12/27/69: Rams at Vikings NFL Eastern Conference Championship 12/28/69: Browns at Cowboys *** AFL Championship 1/4/70: Chiefs at Raiders NFL Championship 1/4/70: Browns at Vikings
You are thinking of the 9-29-74 game in Buffalo. There were 45 mph wind gusts in Rich Stadium that day. Joe Ferguson did not complete any passes. Joe Namath completed two and both came with under two minutes to go in the game. The Bills ran the ball 61 times for 223 yards. They were zero of two passing. Namath was two of 18 with three interceptions. The Bills won 16-12. On 9-29-68 the Jets lost in Buffalo 35-37. Namath threw five interceptions, three of which were returned for touchdowns. Those returns covered 100, 53, and 45 yards. Scrimmage yards- Jets 427, Bills 197
That is not correct. The 1967 Raiders are another such team. They only had to win one postseason home game to make it to the Super Bowl. They pulverized the Oilers 40-7. The difference is the 1968 Jets had to beat a 13-2 team (I'm including Oakland's 41-6 drubbing of the Chiefs in the Western Division Championship), whereas the 1967 Raiders had to defeat a team with a record of 9-4-1. In 1966, the Cowboys and Bills also only had to win one postseason game at home to make it to the Super Bowl. Neither team was up to the task, though. Dallas lost to Green Bay in the Cotton Bowl by 7 points. Don Meredith threw an interception in the end zone with 28 seconds remaining. On the same day, the Bills were blasted 7-31 in Buffalo by the Chiefs.
The fact that the 1966 Dallas Cowboys, 1966 Buffalo Bills, and 1967 Oakland Raiders didn't win it all, does not change the fact that they had the same "easy path" to a Super Bowl as did the 1968 Jets. To throw cold water on the 1968 Jets for a perceived easy path to the Super Bowl strikes me as very strange. I'm with the rest of the people in this thread who don't agree with what you have been writing here.
John Madden, who was the Oakland linebackers coach in '68, estimated that long sideline pass traveled 75-80 yards in the air.
