Of course the world has more interest in the Yankees. They are one of the marque teams in sports history. Their historical legacy is Ruth, DiMaggio, Mantle, Berra, Jackson and YANKEE STADIUM. A team like the Mets that is only in existence since 1962 cannot compare with their history. In historical perspective, we had Tom Seaver and Gary Carter, two true Hall of Famers. Soon we should be able to add Keith Hernandez. But NOBODY measures up to Ruth, Di Maggio or Mantle.
But I think you misunderstand my position. My reason for the "no one will care" comment is because of the two specific teams involved. Maybe the Rays get a little love around the nation for being a Cinderella story, but not a lot. They're a Florida baseball team, and that matters. As for the Phillies, I don't know anyone who isn't from Philly who likes one of their professional teams. Their fans have a lot to do with that. As bad as New England teams' fans can be, Philly fans are just flat out obnoxious. Had this World Series included either the Dodgers, Red Sox, or both, it would have been more popular. It really has nothing to do with the Yankees. Does anyone have the Nielson ratings for this series? I'm curious to know if I'm just way off base or not. EDIT: Actually, I just looked it up myself. I ain't wrong. Even better, Floridians don't even give a shit!
Balfour pitching in short sleeves in like 35 degree wind chill weather. Jenkins was stupid not to tag. If he makes the catch, you want to score. If he doesn't, you score anyway.
Baldelli ties it with a solo shot. Navarro screwed things up. Madson threw the 0-2 pitch right at him. Why jump out of the way? Also, I think Howell should've been pinch hit for.
very intelligent play by Utley and the Rays have a runner thrown out at the plate after a Navarro single. Utley faked to first and they bit.
this game is intense. Now Crawford is on with a leadoff single. but that sob upton grounded into a dp
reyes might've gotten an inside the park homer on that ball earlier and burrell got a double Romero was very bad and the Rays didn't take advantage. Upton is a DP machine and then the ump called strike 1 on ball 4 to Pena.
Upton swinging at the first pitch against a wild lefty and not giving Crawford a chance to steal was silly anyway.
Price is doing better than Balfour and he's wearing sleeves. Reminds me of those crazy OLs who go short sleeves on bitter cold days. They use vaseline or something.
I moved to a more southern area of New Jersey in June 2001. This got me away from large numbers of Yankees fans. Now I come into contact with Phillies fans on a regular basis. Now the Phillies have to go and win a damn World Series. Nice.
What is Sutcliffe's malfunction? Didn't he learn anything in the ALCS about talking about the series MVP before it's over? Why is this such a urgent topic to talk about?!?! He's obsessed.
