    Your Favorite Jets Team

Ok, it was brought up in another thread. Lets have some fun. Tell us your favorite team and why in Jets History. I will say the most fun I had watching the Jets was the 1998 team. My favorite game, if you want to list that too, for me was the 51-45 shootout with Marino. Wesley Walker and Al Toon. what a great pair of WRs.

im a younger fan and while i remember the 98 season i was not invested in the team like i am now. so for me the best season was 2002. chad bursting onto the scene and leading the team to the playoffs. i remember thinking the jets had a franchise qb that would be around for 15 years. it was a great year, sadly all the excitement and joy of that year was derailed by chads many injuries. he could have led this team to a championship if he hadn't had such bad luck.

I'd have to go with 1998 because we won the division for the first time and were dominant all the way through once Vinny got in there.

Right behind it would have to be 1981, because that was the first time I ever saw the Jets have a decent team and make the playoffs. The same guys had gone through a few years of rebuilding and losing so it was really exciting to see them finally break through after the 0-3 start to go 10-5-1 and host the Wild Card game.

    Favorite games:

1974 first ever OT game, beat Giants at Yale Bowl on Namath bootleg to tie, pass to Boozer to win
1978 win @ Denver, robinson to walker bomb in 4th quarter
1981 home Miami game, 16-15 win for 1st place
1981 finale vs Green Bay to clinch playoffs
1982-83 playoff games @ Cin and LAR
1985 MNF home vs Miami, retired Namath's #12 and won 23-7
1986 Wild Card game at home vs KC, ended 5-game losing streak with 35-15 win
1988 finale to KO Giants from playoffs
1991 finale @ Miami to get last playoff spot over them
1992 win @ Buffalo after Dennis Byrd injury
1998 wins @ Miami on Sun night and @ Buffalo 6 days later to win AFC East
1998 playoff home win vs Jax
    2000 MNF miracle vs Miami
2001 finale @ Oakland to make playoffs
2002 finale vs 12-3 Green Bay to win AFC East
2002 playoff win vs Indy 41-0
    2004 playoff win @ SD
2006 win @ NE in the mud
2006 finale vs Oak to clinch playoffs

Unfortunately this could be a short thread because we dont have too many "favorites" in the long storied miserable history of this franchise. I'd have to go with the early 70's teams because I was a little kid and it was my first experience in total futility Players like:

    Namath
    Emerson Boozer
    Matt Snell
    Ralph Baker
    David Knight
    Jerome Barkum
    Don Maynard
    George Sauer
    Earlie Thomas
    Winston Hill
    Randy Rasmussen
    Eddie Bell
    Pete Lammons
    Lou Piccone
    Chris Farasopoulos
    Steve Tannen

'98 was a magical season that almost had a magical ending. That team had balls. The way the Jets were playing by the end of that season, I felt like they could play with any team, anywhere.

Other than that I would have to say the '86-'87 Jets. Started the season 10-1 but totally fell apart down the stretch mostly due to injuries. Lost the last 5 reg. season games and I think this was the year of the infamous Gastineau roughing the passer penalty in Cleveland.

98 was the only year as a Jets fan where I really believed we were going to win the SB, the fact that we came so close and didn't makes it my favorite and possibly one of my least favorites as well, if that makes any sense.

Walking out of the stadium after blowing out the Jags to advance to the championship game was probably the most satisfying feelings I have ever felt in all my years as a Jets fan.

Probably not a popular decision, but I loved the 2000 team. I loved the way they never gave up and stacked up those ridiculous comebacks (the Monday Night game against the Fins was just one of them) and they also had several near-comebacks. There was also something about the team of flashlights thing and the fact that Chrebet was magical. They missed the playoffs but my God, what a roller coaster ride that season was!

I was also living in Santa Monica at the time so I could get immersed in the season more than I can over here... even had a subscription to PFW.

    Next favourite, 2002.

What really kills me is that I wasn't terribly down after the Mud Bowl. Disappointed sure, but I felt we had a great team with all the parts in place and next year would be the year.

And next year was Joe Walton. Excuse me a moment. I need to get a Maalox.

1982 Jets. Todd, Walker, Lam, Gaffney, Shuler, Powell, Ward, Fields, Leahy, Gastineau, Mehl, Klecko, Ray, Holmes, Lyons, Salaam, Buttle, etc. Love that team. Shame they couldn't get past the AFC Championship game, but that playoff, beating Cincinnati and the Raiders,,, in their stadiums,,, priceless.

Going a little off the norm here,

    1991 Team

The season Had so many Ups and Downs, 3 overtime games.

Raul Allegre nails two FG in the season Finale.

Played a Tuff Playoff game in a loss to Houston.

Gotta show some love for the early 80's sack exchange teams. Watching a defense that put fear into opposing QB's every week was priceless!

That was a cool season right up until the end. It's too bad we traded Keyshawn, I think he would have made quite a difference for us that year. The introduction of the grass field made it fun, too, I hate being a turf team.

    2002 and 1996.

Watching all the games in 1996 was a chore, but when Victor Green chased down the RB against to Colts @ like the 2 yard line when the rest of the team gave up was one of my favorite moments as a fan.

I have some good memories of Keyshawn arriving on the scene that year. His cockiness was a welcome breath of fresh air amid all the losing vibe. His first TD vs the Colts when he took his helmet off and went nuts. Harry Boatswain, the OL, ran up behind him at full speed and crushed him in the end zone. Not the smartest thing to do but it was a great moment.

I still instinctively chant "Joe must Go!" at the beginning of every game.

That was the first game I remember as a Jets fan, in the 4th grade 8 yrs old. Do you know where I can get a cd of that game? Sept 21 1986 Jets 51 Miami 45

I got into many near elementary school brawls proclaiming O'Brien to Toon was the best QB/WR tandem ever. Part of me still believes that....If only the Jets had an O line in those days.
