Anyone remember when we drafted Alex Gordon? What about Eric McMillan? How about Bobby Bell? I remember these draft choices. I've bled Green for (at least as long as I remember) more than 25 years. I grew up in Cold Spring Harbor, NY. Went to college in the Midwest, now live in Chicago. Have always followed our team....

But I'm starting to feel like it's all a waste. What's the point? We always suck, the closest we came to the Bowl was in 1998 when we fell apart in the 2nd half against the Broncos. Will we always suck? I fear the answer is "YES". I'm thinking of packing it in, just observing the Jets from the outside, casually, but not investing emotionally anymore. It's not worth it, they always let us down.

Thoughts? Is anyone else questioning they're "Jets-dome" identity? HELP ME!

I bleed, Piss and Crap green. Actually been meaning to go to the doc about the blood.
Anyway, I honestly believe the PSL's are going to push so many fans away that when you couple it with the heartbreaks and tradition of losing, there will be many posts like this one of die hards packing it in.
While I myself am not there....yet. I do feel your pain brother.

Let me guess, then when the Jets start winning you'll hop back on like you never left. I'm so sick of these "SHould I still be a Jets fan" posts after every loss.

Thanks man. You get to a "what's the point?" numbness eventually. You start to see the writing on the wall...Favre will be gone soon, then we'll start over. I remember when O'Brien left, then we had Pat Ryan...then Browning Nagel....then Neil O'Donnell, then Vinny Testaverde...then Penny....then Kellen Clemens...then the legend Favre who sadly didn't make a difference....then ??????? who knows. But I'm simply not sure I want to go through the latest greatest false hope solution. I've seen this movie before and sadly, know how it will end....it sucks, but what's the point in continuing the false hope?

No, it's different this time for me....It's like a black hole of non-performance. I remember going to a barber shop in Huntington and seeing Mark Gastineau getting a hair cut there, being so excited to see him there (in retrospect, should have asked if he had any spare roids). But now with the years of dissapointment and realizing we have to start over (again) next year, I'm thinking, do I want to try to build myself up and believe again that this time we'll get the rebuilding right? It's just getting old, man. Tell me I'm wrong, but it seems like a vicious "Lucy pulling the ball from me" circle...

It is what it is and you either support it or you don't, it is really that simple. You are right about what you are saying but tell me if the Jets won the next 3 weeks you wouldn't be right back on here excited like the rest of us?

It is certainly not easy being a Jets fans, maybe you're not cut out for it. I guess what keeps me is the belief that one day it will happen & do you really not want to have the emotional investment pay off when it does? For me it will be the greatest non childbirth time of my life, hopefully I won't be too old to really enjoy it.

I know how you feel, but if you remove the emotional investment you won't get the payout when/if this infuriating team finally wins another Super Bowl.

Also, I really think that fans of most other teams feel the same way. Us Jets fans tend to think our suffering is unique or especially cruel, but what about Browns fans? Cardinals fans? Everybody tastes that bitter disappointment every year except for one team.

I've found myself less affected by Jets losses as I've got older - they used to really bring me down. Now I get angry and frustrated but then I calm down pretty quickly. It's a defense mechanism I suppose! I still often feel physically sick watching this team play, waiting for another disaster (the Oakland game was very hard to watch), but the victories are still sweet enough to keep me hanging on!

I remember Erik McMillan, but not the others. I know how you feel, our owners mean well and spend the money, which keeps us just good enough to get your hopes up and then the horrible coaches they hire let you down. The real problem is that Hess and Johnson can't pick a good coach. I know Hess got Parcells, but its more like Parcells picked the Jets than the other way around. Leon and Woody, two very nice gentleman. Want to win, will spend the money. Just can't tell the difference between a good coach and a week old turd.

If you made it through the Kotite era then we can stick it out. One day our ship will come in. You pretty much have to be in your fifties to even remember the last time we won and probably sixty to have enjoyed it. Once a Jet always a Jet.

    A. Stop being such a whining pussy. Its only a game.

    2. 1982 was when we were closest to the Super Bowl.

The Jets were leading into the second half of the AFC Championship game in 1998. Can't really get much closer.

at least we aren't cubs fans.... or saints, bills, browns, lions, cardinals, or many other teams fans. its really pretty difficult to win the super bowl. i believe the number is 17 franchises have won the superbowl. thats barely half the teams in the league. the fact this franchise has even won one shows that the team is not as cursed as many of believe we are.

If you think sucking means making the playoffs every other season then I guess your best bet is just to wait and see who looks strong each season and then be that team's fan until the next season starts....

I would guess this is due to being in the shadow of the three time champs Giants. 26 time champs Yankees, three time champs devils, and multiple titles for both Islanders and Rangers. NY fans expect to win.

82 was the better team. Dontcha think? That would actually make for a fun discussion, come to think of it. Much better than this one here, anyway. "Should I root for the Jets or just kill myself already?"

Good point. The 98 team did seem to overachieve. What a great year that was. I miss days like that, the excitement. It is rare.

The 1982 group sustained success for a longer time and was more solid except for the secondary, but the 1998 team went on the best run for one year and didn't give games away in silly fashion like 1982 did. That's why we got a home game in 1998 and not 1982. If not for the strike and expanded playoffs, the 1982 team doesn't make it, that's why they played three games on the road. Only five teams made it back then and we were the #6 seed.

Well this is like choosing which of your children you like best, but I still think the 82 squad had more talent. Better coaching in 98 explains more of their success. I think at least Todd, Walker, McNeil, Powell, Klecko, Gastineau, Mehl and a few other guys would have all started on the 98 team. Plus in 82 the Jets had a much better third down, short yardage, move the sticks guy in the backfield!
