K-Rod is doing a fine job of auditioning for the Mets bullpen next year.

Haha, that was my first thought. He'll fit right in except he will be making more than the entire bullpen did this year.

To be fair unless your name is Papelbon(maybe...)/Rivera/Smoltz (when he was a closer) you aren't going to find closer that is automatic

Papelbon  11/16 in 1 run games. He has the most 3 run saves I have ever seen. Give me a break.

    No Francisco Rodriguez please.

I also refuse to call the guy K-Rod considering there is no K in his first name. I don't care that he records many Ks. He should be called F-Rod.

According to statistical measures other than saves, 2008 is not Rodriguez's best single season, and he is not the best relief pitcher in 2008—even on his own team. Instead, he has pitched for a team that provides many save opportunities, and is used almost exclusively in save situations.

    Excellent article of FRod.

Wow, that was Morgan/Baker-esque. I mean you could tell Manuel wasn't a SABR guy from the moves he made but I didn't expect this kind of nonsense.

So which washed-up assholes who "know how to win" are the Mets going to wind up signing to piss me off?

Interesting how a guy who presides over a disappointing September thinks that he knows how it "really works." Because doing things that make it more likely for the team to score more runs is such an obviously bad idea, after all. I also must have missed how the Mets have been characterized in recent years as being statistically oriented, so it's so important to get away from that, given how neither Randolph nor he managed that way, and Omar has obviously not built a team that way either. Is he claiming that he was somehow prevented from doing what he wanted to do as manager? Because if he is, he's full of crap.

Sounds to me like the groundwork may be getting laid for trading Wright or Beltran, since they are the guys who have been attacked more than anyone for not having the "right stuff."

Wright could bring back multiple good players, but the Mets would probably mess it up. The key player in the trade would probably come to NY and play like Roberto Alomar did here.

Richard Simmons is still available to be hired as a bench coach. Make this happen, Minaya.

Rumor has it Orlando Hudson wants to be a Met. Yes please. Also, we may make a plan for Manny and/or Fuentes.

Hudson doesn't hit in September so he'd be a perfect Mets player.

A play for Manny would have to be in a 5-6 year range that I don't think the Mets will gamble on. I really don't see Manny going to NY unless it's to the Yankees. More money than what the Dodgers can afford and he gets to play Boston 19 times a year. Mets would be the worst of both worlds--not many chances at Boston and the NY media.

LA is clearly the destination for the guy. What Boston fans see as a distraction, LA fans see as entertainment. It's fucking Hollywood afterall
