Are you serious? That's exactly what you do in the playoffs. Run an efficient offense. Not make mistakes... Haven't you watched any playoffs & Superbowls? Again. That mentality of you need a big play offense to win games... So Not true. - C. Pennington 22-29-228-75.9% 1TD 0INT -109.6 Rating. That is a hell of a day Also, It looks like someone starting a Penny thread just rubs people the wrong way  I'm gonna go revive my Ex-Jets thread then...
Wow, you should censor the word "Pennington" in this board. Seems like Jet fans have a little hissy fit whenever his name is mentioned. As for Brown and Williams winning us this game, Penny had just as much to do with this than they did. His smart decisions, precise passing, awareness helped just as much as our run game.
What are you talking about? Do you watch playoff football? I am happy Pennington is doing well, but I wouldn't want him back for a second. Jets are 1 - 3 at best with him, in my opinion. Specifically, I said the Wildcat offense wouldn't work in the playoffs. Wildcat referring to Ronnie Brown lining up at QB. Not to mention the fact that in every playoff run there is a least one game where the QB needs to put the team on his back and make plays (timely throws, tight throws, downfield throws, escape plays)...Pennington can't do that. I have always said Pennington is a guys who can get you to the playoffs and win a game, but won't every get you to / win the Super Bowl. My opinion on that hasn't changed, but that doesn't mean I don't want to see him succeed.
2000 Ravens 2002 Buccaneers Those are recent examples of teams who did it with god awful QBs. Way worse than Pennington. Of course we don't have that kind of D to carry us yet, but that's where we're headed with BP.
First of all, Brad Johnson went to the Pro Bowl the year they won the title and had a 93 passer rating. I am not saying he is the reason the team one, but his wasn't even close to "god awful." The Ravens example is absurd...but if you must...then you are saying that Chad Pennington needs a Top 3 All-time defense to win a title. If that is what you are saying, fine, but I wouldn't want a QB that would need that to win the title. My opinion of Chad comes from watching him since he was drafted. Likeable guy, leader, tough (but not durable), accurate, but just makes it too damn hard to score. What is the average offensive points per game when Chad starts a game? (I say this time-and-time again...why is it that the pro-Chad contingent on this site believes that if you supported the Jets moving on at QB then you hate Chad? A fair percentage of people that were happy he moved on just realized him limitations and believed the risk-reward of going in another direction was better than sticking with him.)
For all I know this has already been tried, but I figure the way to beat the Dolphins is to load up against the run and dare them to pass. Greg Camarillo and Ted Gynn could not start for most teams, Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams could. If it hasn't happened yet, I wonder how they will do against a defense stacked against the run.
Everything is black/white, up/down that is why. He is such a nice guy, I wouldn't mind him banging my sister, I just do not want him as my QB. I guess people just can not separate the 2 issues.
Patriots tried to stack the box, they then realized that wouldnt work because Penny was throwing accurate downfield throws up the middle. Hope that answers your question
So basically nothing has been proven over four games between the Jets and Miami. All the same opponents, opposite results, same record. We might be better off in the long run with San Diego getting this loss instead of Miami, but it's impossible to tell right now.
This exact arguemnt was made by Jets fans on this board for a number of years. I'm so glad we don't have to make that argument anymore.
My brother, a long time Miami fan, called me yesterday at 2:47 and thanked us for sending Chad to Miami, he is thinking they are going 10-6 instead of the original 6-10 he felt at the beginning of the season....
Exactly. Do people realize what made those Defenses so special? The fact that those D's don't come around very often -- the type of D where you don't need much Offense, if any, to score. If you recall, there was a span of about a month (November maybe?) in which Baltimore didn't score an Offensive TD, yet they continued to win games. When you have that type of D, then you can make this argument; however, there ain't a D in the league like that right now, so forget it.
Actually at this stage of the game i would not put 8 or 9 in the box against miami in fact that is the very reason the wildcat formation works. Its the risk of letting ricky williams take it to the outside and turn the corner that keeps defense out of the box. New England played 8 sometimes 9 tight in the box and by the 3rd quarter after it was too late, they started to pull their safety out and away from the line. Really you have give it to miami they found a way to get defenses away from putting 8 in the box without throwing deep
Was Penny throwing to the tight ends? He was good at that here too. Has anyone tried to force the Dolphins to win by throwing to Camarillo and Gynn?
To be technical about the single-wing [wildcat], Brown isn't lining up at QB. He would be a "wingback" in such a format. The distinction is very subtle, as a wingback is closer to a halfback than a quarterback. Football history, my friend, is beneficial to study.
Here are the stats for the receivers, running back and tight ends from the SD game. Camarillo: 6 catches, 68 yards, 1 TD, Long of 17 Ginn: 7 catches, 55 yards, 0 TD, Long of 14 Fasano: 3 catches, 47 yards, 0 TD, Long of 20 Bess: 3 catches, 25 yards, 0 TD, Long of 24 (Great pass and catch) Martin: 1 catch, 25 yards, 0 TD, Long of 25 Brown: 1 catch, 8 yards, 0 TD, Long of 8
