My Body is a Cage - 'The Arcade Fire'. I really like that band. I dig Win Butler, and have done for years. I admire his wife as a musician, but I admit I skip over her individual songs. Her voice bothers me. Butler says some anti-American tripe on occasion, but he's American. A Texan, too. Hardy-har, har, can't escape that! He's a tall, chic, borderline doofus. I love that. He lives in Canada. Interesting guy. He bought his own Church for better sound. He was really ill on Saturday Night Live a couple of years ago (flu), and at the end of the song 'Intervention' (which was not about drugs), he smashed his acoustic on stage. He was so glad he made it. It was awesome. EDIT: Anyway, older album (Funeral), but this song always gets to me and always will....Yes, words matter..."Crown of Love". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJjEQO-gG3Y&feature=related
I saw the Arcade Fire at Cornell in a lecture hall right with about 50 - 75 people right after Funeral came out. Best show i've ever seen. Saw them after Neon Bible came out at a church in Harlem. If you get to see them don't pass it up. Most important band out today, except for maybe radiohead.
Gotta love a guy who looks like this. What a nerd. I dig. Isn't he 6'5" or something crazy like that? Anyway, what sold me back then was this: "Purify the colors, purify mind my mind, purify the colors, my-oh-my, purify the colors and pour the ashes of the colors over this heart of mine!" And, as to Neon Bible, a good deal of my art has to do with beacons and all the symbols thereof. Beacons, beacons, beacons. I wrote a story about lighthouses and ships, and when I heard "Resurrected living in a lighthouse, without you the ship is gonna wreck, resurrected living in a lighthouse, the lions and the lambs ain't sleepin' yet!" - I almost went off the road. By the way, plinko had 'Funeral' as his avatar back in the day. Just another reason why he's one of the coolest cats on the planet.
Haha, I went to see Death Cab For Cutie on Monday night @ Radio City. It was a good time. I said pages back that I didn't really like them years back, but they really grew on me. Sometimes the lyrics clunk, but when they're on, they're on. Gotta go with words. I always do. Wow, the lead singer lost a ton of poundage (Word Play). Good for him. Just yesterday I thought I heard strains of 'I Will Possess Your Heart' on a TV commercial. I was cooking and noticed at the last second. Say it ain't so.
