Thomas Jones runs with no authority down by the goal line. They can't keep having favre throw it on every down by the goal line. They need a power back who can punch it into the end zone. I'm not saying jones is bad. Not at all. In fact, i think he's been running well. Just when he's not in the red zone.
T.J. looks like a power back but really just isnt. We could use a big Brandon Jacobs size back on the squad.
Jones has the build, just not the style. He falls down way too easily and has absolutely no moves at all in the open field. He's a compiler, not a elite back. Too bad we didn't sign Jordan back but oh well..
Brandon Jacobs: 6'4, 260 lbs, 4.56 40 yard dash Jerome Messam: 6'4, 248 lbs, 4.41 40 yard dash Messam is a rookie who was undrafted in the 08 draft. "Messam began the 2007 season at Graceland - a National Association of Intercollegiate Association school of just 1,200 students in Iowa - with a bang. He rushed for 100 or more yards in six straight games before sustaining a right knee injury in the seventh that left him with 993 yards rushing on 168 carries (5.9-yard average) and 16 touchdowns. A season highlight for Messam was a 235-yard rushing effort on 23 carries and four touchdowns - including one on a 99-yard scamper - in a 42-21 win over Avila that earned him NAIA player-of-the-week honours." - http://www.topix.com/content/cp/2008/01/running-back-jerome-messam-leaving-school-for-nfl-cfl-drafts "Messam has the blend of size, power and speed that pro scouts love. While he is definitely big enough to run between the tackles, he's also strong, having bench-pressed 320 pounds. And with having posted 40-yard dash time under 4.4 seconds, he's also got the quickness to be deadly on the outside. Trouble is, the 2008 NFL draft is going to be full of top running backs, led by Arkansas Darren McFadden, who's being mentioned as a potential first-overall selection by Miami even with Ronnie Brown on its roster. Other heralded running backs include McFadden's teammate Felix Jones, Oregon's Jonathan Stewart, Michigan's John Hart and Illinois' Rashard Mendenhall." - same source I loved him going into the draft, I still love him. He had a try out for the Giants in May but he hurt his leg in camp and couldn't finish his tryout. Need a powerback who has speed, size and power? Looks like we need Messam. Edit: The source has it as John Hart - we know his name is actually Mike Hart. Also, to name a few other backs that they forgot to mention: Jamaal Charles, Matt Forte, Chris Johnson, Tashard Choice, Ray Rice, Steve Slaton, Kevin Smith, Ryan Torain, Chauncey Washington - most of them being from big name schools and having been in the media while in college
it seems like injuries and low level competition are why he is not on a team right now... nice measureables.
If you had he would have been drafted. He's Canadian. Did you hear of Tony Romo before he stepped onto the field? What about Kurt Warner? Antonio Gates? Priest Holmes and Willie Parker were both undrafted in their respective draft and both have been to the Pro Bowl...
1. Priest Holmes and Willie Parker played against D-I competition. 2. Both played behind stellar offensive lines. 3. Gates, Romo, and Warner are all just incredible finds by their team's GMs and coaching staffs. Gates is probably the best find, because numerous teams have worked out basketball players, and none of them have worked out like Gates. Tony Gonzalez is a similar story. 4. Go play some Madden.
He left THE Graceland University EARLY to enter the draft. Where in the fuck is that? That's why he wasn't drafted. No one's ever heard of this kid for a reason. (FYI, I knew about this kid during college recruiting and it was disgusting to see him commit to a tiny, worthless program in Iowa like Graceland University.)
Dude, Brandon Jacobs type backs come along once in a blue moon, every team could use a "Brandon Jacobs size back"
