I didn't even notice Rhodes until about the 10th replay... Rhodes helmet hit Boldin in the back of the helmet...Then Smith smashed in. Awful to see... Glad that he's doing okay!
Maybe this will be the end of the Eric Smith era. I never liked the clown back there and if he's out for a few games its possible that we can work someone else into the slot. It's not like there would be a dramatic drop-off in talent anyway.
This coming off the best game of his career? If there was someone the CS felt was better than him wouldn't they be playing now?
One game out of all games thus far where he actually stood out. He's more of a liability back there than an asset.
Your wish won't come true. I'll tell you now he won't even get a fine, anyone with half a brain can see there is no intent there at all. Smith, (for me) is one of those players that will raise his game as the team around him gets better, put him into a shitty tea, he will play shitty. I love aggressive players , sometimes you get burnt, but the rewards are also big. Smith is a stayer
I don't think Smith's intentions were bad, but it was a clear helmet to helmet hit. He should be fined for it..
Isn't that the reason for wearing helmets in this sport, accidental collisions? So to break down your comment, it was clear it wasn't intentional, but fine him anyway, for having an accident
I wasn't speaking about the fine or suspension, but the fact that when he rose he looked as if he was in la-la land. I just wonder if he'll be cleared to play next week.
It has been 4 games in which he has been the starter and played really well in this game. I don't think Smith is all that great a safety and could certainly be upgraded but I am sure that if there was an upgrade on the roster already he would be playing over Smith.
Sorry. Anyone who'd just walked into the room could have been forgiven for thinking that only one person was laying on the floor. Not once was there a reference to Smith on the ground.
The rules are the rules, you may not like them but they are there for a reason. The rule clearly states no helmet to helmet hits, which this clearly was.
Then the rule has to be enforced. But who hit who? Both Heads were going the same way at the same time, neither was static. Boldins movement was altered by the collision from Rhodes. Had that collision not taken place, then the now air born Smith would have hit Boldin in the chest in what would have been a text book tackle. This rule cannot be enforced for this unfortunate accident. So every time 2 helmets from opposing teams collide there will be some kind of retribution? Who deems it as violent? Football IS a violent sport. INTENT HASto be proved.
They should go back to wearing leather helmuts. You wouldn't see anyone lead with their head under any circumstances then.
smith is gonna get fined for this one. intentional or not. it was a helmet 2 helmet hit and the nfl is strict on this. theyre gonna have to make an example of smith. they just cant let it pass then if another incident happens they'll just point back to this one and say "why wasnt eric smith fined?" it sucks but thats the nfl for you. smith just needs to get his checkbook ready.
Cardinal fans are completely up in arms, they believe that the Jets are one of the dirtiest teams out there now and that Smith AND Rhodes hit was completely intentional... All a matter of perspective I guess... Two people should be fined in this... 1) Eric Smith... you never lead with your helmet... EVER! 2) Ken Whisenhunt... WTF were they doing trying to stupid passes like that in garbage time... ESPECIALLY after your team fumbled it with 2 seconds left in the 2nd quarter!!!
I was shocked they didn't take a knee after that play. Hopefully Boldin is ok, the play should have been flagged but I don't think Smith was trying to be dirty.
I think Boldin is going to be fine. I don't think Smith was trying to be dirty either, Rhodes hit Boldin from behind which forced Boldin's head down right into Smith.
