Why did they hire this guy? So he was the head coach of that powehouse called Army for nine years? And his NFL DC experience? Zero! Is he a 3-4 expert? Not to impressive, Bob. Sutton should be the first one out the door. Of course now that Jenkins is hurt, he has an excuse. Did he even have a game plan last night?

The D had played relatively well prior to last night. The Chargers o-line dominated us as soon as Jenkins checked out.

I'm not a Sutton fan at all, but if you take the motor out of a corvette it ain't gonna run too well.

Well said again, its amazing people don't see it. Once Jenkins went out, it was downhill from there. Defense was playing good up until that point.

Broadway Brett, I do think our defensive minds have got to find a different way for the second platoon to play the 3-4 / 4-3 hybrid of Mangini. They don't have the capability to play as Jenkins does. It's about time (the fourth game and BEFORE the bye this year!) they change their ways.

I do wonder how it works when one coach comes in and is tasked to run another coach's system. Ted Cottrell tried doing that with the Tampa-2 system that Herm brought. Now, Sutton is running the Belichick system that Mangini brought. Not to mention, Schottzie is trying to run Paul Hackett's system without the array of imaginative draw plays. . . . or maybe I'm getting ahead of myself.

The defense just held on against a 1-15 team and had a QB who hasn't started since high school beat them. I think last night may be more of a reality.

The dolphins were 1-15 LAST year. They are not as bad as you think. They are clearly better than KC, Cincy and Oakland IMO. Defense was good against the Pats, they just got tired. Last night we shot ourselves in the foot by not getting off the field on 3rd down. That falls on the CS. I dunno how many times last night I saw SD convert a 3rd down with the same friggin play. Davis coming across the middle right where the blitz was coming from. That is not the Defense, thats the coaching not putting them in a position to be successful. Although, I do think the defense could have played better. Next week the defense will look better then after the bye they will be even better.

this team lacks depth, one guy goes out and our d goes from playing good, to shitty.

the secondary is thin, the d-line is thin, the wr's are thin, the o-line is thin, this is all due to trading draft players, for some of the good players we have now.

I just cannot stand when I see defenses around the league blitz and their usually is 1 guy who is just untouched and has a free pass to the QB.

It just seemed like last night, San Diego picked up our defenses PERFECTLY and let Rivers just sit back in the pocket in a blitzing situation.

    It gets pretty annoying.

Bob Sutton has been with this team since 2000 with Groh, but I think his pedigree is more more of a recommendation by Parcells than mere qualifications. He was Groh's replacement when AG was promoted to HC after the Belichick debacle. He inherited a ton of talent and his squad played well out of the gate until age caught up with them and then Herm started playing Retarded Scientist. I think he's spent the majority of his Pro career being a puppet.

Yeah, their blocking schemes were great, although they couldn't do shit when Jenkins was in there. We got a lot of pressure early before we saw him on the sideline. We just don't have depth at NT and the rest of the defense is not good enough to mask his absence.

I think losing Jenkins that game really hurt us. Probably would have been a lot closer.

Us Jets fans love to throw cordinators under the bus - Its fuckin great! but i dont think GOD coaching our D would really help us much. Its been the same old Jets D except Jenkins has helped the run a little and now his big ass is gonna be out or playing hurt.

Firing Sutton might help, but he's not the main culprit here. We need more talent, period. And I think it's too late to switch back to a 4-3.

There are very few competent NT in the NFL and even fewer good ones. It is just so rare to find a 350lb man with athleticism. As a consequence NT is a tremendously hard position to fill (as the Jets have found out the last 2 years).

The difficulty in finding a NT (who is the key to the whole scheme) is one of the strongest arguments against running a 3-4. Now I'm not advocating the Jets switch back since we've already gone this far. But in deciding how to set up a team, the scarcity of good NT should be an important part of the decision which defense to use. NT are very hard to find in the draft. But colleges produce numerous 4-3 DL every year.
